Hey guys, I've always read over the forums but never really posted anything, but now I need your help. My cars transmission has always been in bad shape, second gear disappearing on me at time grinding every gear and such. Today it finally happened it blew...I was wondering what all transmissions would fit in the car, I heard about a guy putting a Galant transmission in his. Also what kind of clutch should I go for?

Also, do you guys recommend any certain transmission fluid?

I suggest you put in a turbo manual you need to use a 1990-early 1991 transmission with a 22 spline output shaft, if you take a late 1991-1994 tranny it will have a 23 spline output shaft. Use a clutch from center force.

For reasons unknown to me Mitsu seems to have been plagued with trans problems. When I first started working on them in 92 they suffered shifter block which means they were hanging up momentarily during shifting. We tried everything in them from new synchros and fluids and enhancers etc. On the fwd's the problem was the input and counter bearings failing. Most likely because they were low on fluid or something like that. Currently I am using 15w50 Mobil 1 full synthetic engine oil in my manual trans which is non turbo and for almost 2 years I have had absolutely no problems with it. I can't recommend to you to do the same as you could conceivably have different results. However, take from it what you will. I've also used this engine oil in a Cummins turbo diesel 4wd pickup and for almost 3 years it's been trouble free. Run these transmissions low and they will quit you. I check mine every time I change my engine oil. I also have a couple of awd transmissions, both with problems. I just haven't had time to get into them.
If you do decide to take it upon yourself to try the Mobil 1, keep us apprised of the results.

Good Luck
