So the motor will be done getting rebuilt shortly, so I have a short question.

I still have the 1g mas but the filter is just filthy. When I say filthy, I mean it looks like its been dipped in mud. I just don't trust this filter and was thinking about buying a new one.

Now, I have a 2g Mas and Apexi intake laying around as well, and I was wondering if it would be ok to run that to break in the fresh motor. I also have SAFC so I guess I could richen it up 20%, but I need to make sure that it's "safe" for the new motor. I would rather have a keydiver chip to fully compensate for the 2g Mas, but since I might go with speed density in the future, I don't want to waste money on something I might only use for a month or two.

Let me know what you all think. I don't know, I guess I get a bad feeling about the SAFC being able to fully compensate for the 2g Mas.

Thanks,
Omar :dsm:

Our options are a $10 filter and a factory tune vs. changing the MAS and guessing at the tune and potentially washing out the rings on your brand new engine?

This is a really hard decision...

Break it in, before you break it.

If you have a WBo2 you can tune it to compensate if the 450's can handle it. Dont just go adding fuel without a wbo2 or at least a logger.

Well, I do have a logger but what would I be looking for? All I can think of right now is fuel trims and maybe rich knock; the nb02 readings are useless.

Exactly so just make sure your car is not knocking the trims are in line. You will not need to worry about rich knock when you put the 2gmaf in. You need to worry about running lean. I would also get a wbo2 because I burned a valve running lean even though my logger was saying everything was ok.

Well, I decided to get a new FRAM filter LOL. This thing is really goofy looking but it'll do. Thanks a lot you guys for the help. Engine gets dropped in soon! Can't wait!
