2G Which ball joints?

I took my car to the mechanics to have my clutch replaced. While having it replaced he told me that my steering knuckles were shot and he would replace them for the cost of the parts and no labor charge because he had the car apart already. Well all went well and he replaced the clutch and steering knuckles on both sides. He also told me that I will need to replace my ball joints soon because they are starting to make noise (which i noticed before even dropping the car off). Now they noise has gotten pretty loud and my alignment is completely off because my front tires are now shot. I am just not sure which ball joints need to be replaced? When I turn the car at low speeds or while stopped it makes a loud creaking noise similar to a creaky wooden rocking chair or a squeaky mattress. Does anyone know which ball joints are the ones going or how to tell which need to be replaced?
