Winnipeg,
okay so ive read a bit and havent found anything that would help me.

I just bought the talon tsi and the tranny is completely rebuilt still with receipts dated in march and they barely drove it since its just been sitting around. New clutch AND slave cylinder. The car will not shift into gear. when the car is off it shifts fine, when the car is on it will not go into gear unless i force it. I ccalled them they said because it was sitting for so long it may just need a tranny fluid change.

I'm wondering, what else could cause this aside from slave cyl and clutch cause those are brand new. Do talons usually do this if they arent driven for a long time and havent had the fluid replaced?

HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. im freakin out, thing isnt even completely paid for, im paying it off slowly and it wont even run.

The problem sounds like the clutch is still partly engaged even with the pedal fully depressed, especially if you can shift it fine with the car off. Try checking the master cylinder and lines between the slave and master cylinder. Bleeding the lines may cure it too, but see if a leak is the root of the problem.

And no, to my knowledge Talons and other cars included don't go into gear hard from the transmission oil sitting. What they can do is build up air in the lines if there is any leak or worn seals in the master or slave cylinder, or just need to be pumped a couple times to rebuild pressure.

yeah it shifts fine, i dont even have to hold in the clutch when the car is off.

which ones master and which one is slave? where could the leaks be?

also i forgot to mention it'll stall if i force it into gear.

The stalling means the clutch is not disengaging fully. The slave cylinder is right where your tranny and block bolt up on the front side, the master cylinder is on the firewall, follow the lines from your slave cylinder, or vice versa. There is a "plunger" in the slave cylinder that can wear over time which happened to one of my DSM's, but the master cylinder I don't know much about. Check for any oily spots on or around the slave or master cylinder and check the lines between them.

update. k so there was a small puddle under the slave cylinder when we lifted the car onto jacks. so there is a leaky slave cylinder for sure. but it wasnt excessive. also it was a bit wet above as well, not coming from any hoses from what i could see.

so me and my buddy just bled the slave cylinder.

basically i'd pump it 4-5times hold it with my hand while he opend the valve let it drain out, close it then id lift the clutch manually then we'd do it over again. We pretty much drained the whole clutch master cylinder and the lines then we filled it with dot 3. pumped it a few times...and im assuming there was still a small leak in the slave BUT it shoulda still ran fine for a bit. it grinded trying to engage into first gear, so i turned it off and started it in first gear, we went around the block about 5times and it was OKAY. a tiny bit better than before at least it would let me shift into gear but still rough, from a stop there's no shifting to first without doing it forcefully.

What's this sound like to you guys? just a slave cyl without enough pressure? or could it be within the clutch as well. this sucks ass, owned the car for like 10mins and it gave out on me.

If it is the slave cylinder that's leaking(connected by two bolts to the block/transmission I can't remember), replace it. I got one for about $20 US at a local parts store. When mine started leaking it would disengage closer and closer to the floor until after ~5 miles of city driving I couldn't press the pedal far enough to disengage the clutch.

Edit: Check the line fitting going into the slave cylinder first before you go out and buy a new one. If it's not the fitting the leak is on the side that the rod comes out of, then it's most likely a worn out slave cylinder.

YES i just had the SAME exact problem, it was a 91 awd i put a fidanza clutch and flywheel it the clutch was NOT fully disengaging at all i rebleed the master and the slave, and nothing happened so he got a extended clutch rod and its perfectly fine other then that people have problem with the clutch pedal assembly breaking/ bending.
