First off, great sight everyone. Second, how do you convert bar pressure to psi? My boost gauge reads .9 to 1 bar. Third, driving to work this morning, accelerating quickly. I made my shift to fourth and poof! Smoke coming out of my exhaust like crazy. When I coast the smoke is gone. Went to park it at work and it died. No starting. Worked, came back to the shop and pulled the plugs. Fouled a bit but otherwise, ok. Pulled upper intercooler hose off. Nothing but oil. Started car and oil dribbled out of ic pipe. Also started smoking like a james bond car out of the exhaust. From reading other threads, turbo seals gone? Thinking of rebuild stock turbo or evo 16g. Thoughts anyone? Also a problem that has plagued me for some time. Cruising and letting off the accelerator suddenly causes my car to stall. And is difficult starting afterwards. Almost acts like it is flooded. Push on accelerator and just barely idles at 4-500 rpms. Im sure my isc is bad, cause i have idle fluctuation. Could that cause my car to stall after lifting off the throttle? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

1 BAR = 14.5 psi. .9 Bar is 13 lbs.
Yes, your turbo is definitely shot. I would do a compression check anyway for the hell of it, but all of your symptomslead to the turbo. What color is the smoke?
I'm not sure about the sudden stalling though, maybe someone who knows can chime in.
I would also keep an eye out on your oil/coolant levels.

Hey, thanks for the reply. My oil level was ok. As was my coolant. Im sure if I would have run the car longer, my oil level would have dropped! The smoke is bluish in color. It seems to idle ok, save for the obscene amount of smoke. Now another aspect of my stalling issue is my wastegate arm pops off the 02 dump. The cotter pin broke off and cant get it out. However, when that pops off, my car will not stall after lifting the throttle. At that point my exhaust is dumping wide open out of a 2.5 dump pipe near my downpipe. Could it be an exhaust restriction farther down the line causing my car to stumble and stall? The down pipe is 3" the dump pipe for o2 is 2.5 The rest of the exhaust is 2.5 to a flowmaster with a 4 inch tip. Sounds good!

Definitely a blown turbo. Don't drive the car anymore until you fix the turbo.

Your profile doesn't show an upgraded BOV. Are you still recirculating your BOV? If not, that could lead to a rich condition during shifts (I'll not explain, as it sounds like you read the Stage 0 mod stuff which I think covers recirc issues). Also, your BOV vaccuum line (between BOV and IM) may be disconnected or leaking, or the BOV may be bad (can test the BOV with a vaccuum pump).

With the actuator arm disconnected from the WG lever, you won't boost; the WG flapper isn't being held closed anymore.

I have no idea how much it costs to rebuild your turbo, but if you want more power, you might want to take the opportunity to get an upgrade, as you're already going to have to pull the turbo.

www.vfaq.com has 14b rebuild instructions if you're interested.

You'll probably also want to clean out your IC, IC pipes, TB, and IM, as the motor probably sucked a lot of oil through the entire intake tract.

Anyway, this is exactly how I got started modding my car, so have fun with the turbo work!!

blue smoke, deffinatley oil. as far as the stalling go's maybe its your mass air flow acting funny. Of course your blow off valve should be recycling the air back into the turbo but make sure the honey comb section of the air sensor isint covered in oil and junk. You can pick up a can of Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner at the local parts house for like $7. That stuff works small miracles, you'd really be surprised how well the car will run with a cean MAF and IAC
