One of the cheap mods listed on the tech page for the 2g turbo engine is to hack the air can. Has anyone tried this, how? what results? What noise level increase (if any)?

I'm of the opinion that hacking the stock air box is pretty much useless. Sure you can hear the turbo spool and your bov go off now but whatever.
Save it, intact, for turning the car back to stock or emissions testing or something useful.
Go with any intake tube/air filter combo. Same shit, different pile.
Extreme psi has a reasonabley priced filter and intake. Ebay also has some good deals, just remember a pipe is a pipe and the same pretty much goes for filters.
Do you want my old extreme psi filter? It's definitely useable and clean. I would of course include the MAS adapter.
