photo Missing Parts, Timing is Off, Unplugged Sensor..Etc. NEED HELP!! VID INCLUDED!!

Ok, so some of you might have read my thread about getting my 95 GST for $625, well today I went to do some work on it and came across some problems.

The car was missing a fuel rail and injectors so I got a hold of both of them along with some new insulators and O-rings and installed them today. Now the guy said this was all it needed to run including new plugs and wires. I first installed the injectors and fuel rail.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture583.jpg

I then changed the oil and filter with Mobil 10-30W oil and filter. I noticed that there was only about 2-3 quarts of oil that drained out probably because the oil pan was leaking from the gasket area.

Well, he said it needed plugs and wires but the car came with both so I just used the wires but replaced the plugs. The battery was also dead even though it looked brand new but this might be from the car sitting for 6 months.

Now I was in the process of installing the stock UICP and noticed a few things "looking out of place" and "missing". Here are pics I dont know what they are.

Looks like a missing sensor:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture582.jpg

This hose was unhooked, couldn't trace where it was supposed to be connected:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture584.jpg

This sensor right next to the brake fluid reservoir was unplugged and I didn't see anywhere to plug it back in to:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture585.jpg

And last but not least I decided to look at the timing belt and this is what I saw:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture586.jpg

Now I tried starting the car but it would crank but wouldn't turn over. It sounded like it wanted to start though but I kept thinking that with missing parts and bad timing it wouldn't. I NEED SOME HELP from you guys, this is my first turbo car and some of the parts I'm not familiar with. I mean I picked it up for cheap so some of these things are not bothering me (as of yet).

Here are a few pics of the car:

The hole in the end of the IM is for the EGR valve. Edit: no it's not. I can see it below the open hole I think. I'll keep looking.

Can you tell me where the other end of that hose goes? It may be the hose to the charcoal canister. If that's the case, the open end connects to your intake pipe. Mine doesn't have that bend at the end, though. It may also be the BOV vaccuum line, but it looks too big of a diameter for that.

The plug looks like it goes to the purge control solenoid (PCS) valve which is also missing on your car along with the EGR control solenoid.

If you look in that picture with the plug or the picture of your installed fuel rail, you can see two empty bolt holes in the firewall with clean paint where a bracket used to be. That's where the EGR and PCS solenoid bracket mounted. There may be another plug somewhere for the EGR solenoid. If you can get the wire colors off of that plug, I can check against mine.

Take a look at this site, and you'll have a better idea of what your engine bay *should* look like. Just click on the picture to zoom in on a specific area.

Another thing I noticed is that your fuel filter is in a different location than mine. This may be differences between the 2g and 2gb models, or the guy may have put in an aftermarket filter (mine's bigger and toward the center of the firewall from where yours is mounted behind the battery tray).

Holy sun fade batman! Anyways, that first picture looks like that's where the ISC goes because isn't that the EGR valve right below that hole? Also that hose looks like it goes right on the canister below the battery tray.

the hose disconnected looks like it should plug into your evap canister... the nipple is in the same picture under the battery tray, lol....

Also, I would be willing to bet that that plug close to your firewall is probably for your knock sensor, which is located below the intake manifold on the back side of the engine block... check that.

edit: actually I'm giving bad advice, that doesn't look like a knock sensor plug.

95TalonOwner is right I think. That's the idle speed control (ISC) motor not the EGR valve which is right below it. It's also referred to as the idle air control motor. You need that! That's how the ECU regulates idle rpm.

And being off one tooth in timing isn't terrible but should be fixed.

Looks like the previous owner deleted all of the emissions stuff.

I think in the picture with the missing sensor is where your IAC valve goes. I looked on CAPS and its the closest thing I can find. Without that IAC (Idle Air Control), your car will not run. The bad thing is they are godly expensive. If you need a price, this is the part number: MD628051
For your missing hose, look at the attached pic. It goes on that nipple on the charcoal canister for your emissions. Good buy by the way, the motor and tranny are worth more than that anyway. Good luck with your build.

In the image of the missing ISC motor, you can see another plug that is a bit below center and a bit to the left of the center of the image (between the two large hoses) with a red, green and white wire (stripe maybe) visible. That may be the ISC motor plug. Is that plugged into anything?

Damn, where do I start.

Charcoal canister hose:

I tried connecting it to that nipple but it was too big and I thought to myself that it might be for somewhere else. The other end of that hose connects to the intake pipe.

So my ISC is missing, is that why the car won't start?

The connector by the brake fluid reservoir:

Does it definitely need to be connected to the purge control solenoid (PCS)?

I remember him telling me something about the emissions being deleted but I really don't remember exactly what he said.

Will the car run without the emissions stuff connected?

So even being 1 tooth off, the car should start up and run after I get all the other stuff taken care of?

Wouldn't this let the car run terrible?

Take the hose into Autozone and get a new length of it. Maybe the hose is just deteriorating.

I don't know if you block it off if the car will start, but you can't run normally without it as far as I know.

I have all of my emissions stuff in place, so I don't know what you have to do to get everything working without CELs and such.

If the rest of the car (body, engine, tranny) is okay, you still got a good deal. It's all a matter of time and patience. Keep us posted!

.
Should I just replace the fuel filter then?

If the intake cam is off 1 tooth, you'll have sketchy idle, but it'll flow better on the top end, but I forget if it's one tooth advanced or retarded (me thinks retarded for more overlap, but I honestly don't recall). I think it should run, but it might idle poorly. I'd fix it, but if you just wanna see if the car runs, one tooth won't keep you from doing that.

Part of your work may want to include a tbelt replacement. Did the previous owner say anything about balance shaft removal? If not, you might consider that at the same time.

As I said, I don't know about emissions delete stuff. It looks like all of those vaccuum lines are for emissions stuff, so if you get everything set up for no emissions, those might be just fine. I can guarantee that there are a lot of folks on this forum who have eliminated all emissions stuff in the name of power, so you'll have to wait for them to chime in.

As for the fuel filter, if it works, don't bother. As long as you're flowing enough fuel at full boost at redline, it's flowing fine. And it shouldn't leak.

I'd worry more about the ISC/IAC and the timing.

About that plug in the "missing ISC picture" that I asked about earlier...is that plugged into anything or just hanging there? I'm guessing it's the plug for the missing ISC.

He said he never replaced the timing belt. He only had it for 15,000 miles but I was planning on doing that. Yeah, I already researched about changing the balance shaft belt as a part of the timing belt job. I would eliminate it but I'm not ready for that yet.

I didn't notice that plug until you pointed it out but from the pic it looks unplugged. I'll have to look at it tomorrow when I go back to the storage yard. Thanks for clearing some things up man. I'll be doing some IAC/ISC hunting now.
