ok so i took my automatic 97 eclipse GST to the track for the first time yesterday. I have to say i was disappointed with my time. On my best run i ran a 15.3 sec. 1/4 mile time. First off my list of mods is: 17 psi wastegate, boosting 16 psi, manual boost controller, lowering springs, injen intake, and 3" cat-back exhaust. On my best run this is how i did it....i did my burnout and lined up, i than "brake boosted" by holding the break pedal and hitting the gas while down in "1" on the auto trans. This allowed my boost to get up to about 5 psi and i than popped off the break pedal to launch. I shifted gears around 6500 RPMS and had my overdrive turned off. I ran it through the gears and by the time i got to the end of the 1/4 mile i was back in drive again and turned the overdrive back on to shift one last time. Does a 15.3 second 1/4 mile time seem slow to anyone else because to me it seems really bad. I'm just looking for some opinions on what you guys think and maybe some tips on how to race the car better to lower my time and some tips on how to lower my time. Thank for the info. in advance, i really appreciate the help!

i think its slow i don't know about at tranny but anyway you could do way better with those mods that you have, last year i went to atco racetrack with my bone stock 1g eclipse and i did 14.7 that was my best run out of 6 the slowest time was 15,2 and i got manual tranny but i don't think that at tranny could hurt you that much on 1/4 mile time

dont listen to any of these bench racers that say that you should be running faster because a totally different car that weigh less with different mods ran faster. those times seem normal. what were your 60ft times? trap speed? it seems very normal to me. DSMs are over-rated when theyre stock to mildly modded...people expect too much from them.

On that run my 60' time was a 2.40....well i mean it makes me seem a little better knowing that you guys think the times were ok for the mods i had but i was just hoping for a little bit better times....maybe next time i will boost a little more off the line and see if that helps....what is the other thing you were asking for besides the 60' time?

Thats not bad at all 2.4 60 ft and that time. You no a good set of street tires i used on my old fwd was falken azenias they hooked good. Whats the highest you can get the boost to climb to sitting still? Also what was the 8th mile time?

Trap speed, the mph you completed the 1/4 mile at. I'm guessing high 80's to mid 90's with that ET and fwd. Generally, ET is traction and trap speed is power. Altitude, temperature, and gas quality all can make a difference. I would say that for a t25, automatic, and fwd that's a respectable time, especially for the first time at the track. :thumb:

Just something I was wondering, were you on street radials? If so, burning out actually hurts more than it helps.

x2 on that, street radials get "greasier" when they are burned out. Chirping the tires a revolution or two when you are out of the water box will remove dirt/debris on the other hand, improving traction.

Sounds about right. A 2g FWD AT DSM is a deficit off the bat. With a 2.4 60 foot that sounds about right.

IF you got that down to around 2.0 you'd be in the 14s easily. Also, shifting the gears on your own is not a great idea. Just put it in drive with the O/D off, brake torque and go. The car can shift better than you can.

Every car is different, but with a t25 you could be running out of power so shifting the car yourself would be better, instead of the car trying to rev out to 7k rpm when it's not necessary.
