well i bought a 91 talon fwd tsi 155k miles guy said head was rebuilt but it looks like it still mixes... drove the car 150 miles home drove around for 5 miles dumped the clutch once and it started to get hot the car heated my oil pressure dropped and car wont start... found out my oil drain plug blew out... car ran out of oil...

any input?

hopefully you didnt do too much damage. i'm hoping you fixed it and put more oil in it before trying to start it again. if it still wont start you may have seized the engine :( if you havent already go buy a haynes manual or something and take your head off and see. maybe theres something wrong with the head that he didnt fix.

**NOTE: for future reference, when buying a DSM make sure you check EVERYTHING before driving away with it. especially 150 miles.

i think the engine is seized... i took off my valve cover and the head looks fine so should i take it off complelty and look at it or what? What should i look for?

Well get a 1/2" braeker bar and try to turn the engine (make sure it's out of gear) if it turns pull the pan and check the crank and bearings. If it don't pull the lump and take it apart on a engine stand or replace it then and there.

At that point you have to decide is it cheeper to rebuild or replace. A overhaul can build up $$$ real fast.

ok im having one of my good friends whos a mehanic come over tomrow and we are going to look at it... if its not seized what could it be?

How long did it run after oil pressure droped?
Did it shut itself off or did you shut it off.
Did it make any sounds as soon as you lost pressure or while it was shuting off?
If its not seized pull the oil pan and oil filter.
Look real close and hard for metal shavings and peices.
Make sure to look at the connecting rods.
If you dont find anything massive.
You can either go ahead and do some tune up work while you have it apart.
For example timing belt, eliminate your balance shafts, water pump, all your belts and the oil pump(you did run it out of oil you could have seized it)
Or you can just put it back together fill it up with oil and try to start it.
If it does start check the compresion and listen for anything ratiling, knocking, grinding or a screching sound(good indicator of balance shafts going out)

The car shut off by its self and when the oil pressure dropped it ran for maybe 30-60 seconds the car didnt make any noises im going to check it all out tomorow and start from there... i found a 91 engine with 80k miles for 700 bucks and they said it runs perfect so maybe might get that... i will update as i go

Man one hell of a way to get started with a new car for yourself. I hope after this it's all smooth sailing.

Yea i hope so too man my first car and my dad was just like junk the car let it go for whatever and i paid 550 for it so ill let it sit till i get it fixed most likley ill replace the engine and be good to go in the end if it costs me close to 2 grand i still did good =]
