I think my clutch is going out, but I wanted to seek an opinion from the pro's on here. When I have my clutch fully engaged I cannot shift into any gear. However if I bring the clutch off the floor about an inch or so i can then shift into gear. In the past when I've had a clutch go bad, it has typically started to slip then go out, so this problem is new to me.

In addition, when I do bring the clutch off the floor alittle then shift into gear, with the clutch still depressed and in gear I can hear a hum from the engine, I assume from the clutch.

*Edit*
I wanted to add that It was driving fine as I started my journey back home, but on the way home It was becoming difficult to shift between gears.

I was reading past posts about adjusting the rod for issues with clutch engagement, would it also help with what seems to be a disengagement issues? Thank you!

After searching through the threads and taking advice from other threads, I went to check for leaks around my master cylinder including the path from it to the transmission, and found everything to be alright there. I went to check the clutch area inside the car to see if there was any leaking in there also and didn't see anything. However, I noticed while looking that there is a cable disconnected from what appears to be what the clutch engages when depressed. Could that be causing the problem I'm having? Should it be connected, or is that common? I have no idea if it had always been disconnected or if it happened the same day I started having issues with my clutch going into gear. At first glance I didn't see anywhere where the cable could have come disconnected from.

I've posted a picture with the cable in question circled.

I'm hoping I find a simple solution to this without having to have it towed to the shop, so thanks for your help.

Ok, after climbing back up in there, directly opposite of the cable I circled, there is another cable that looks like it may connect to it.

The problem is that it seems like the other cable was slightly pushed back and not dangling like I figured it should be, thinking they were connected around the clutch causing the clutch being depressed to eventually disconnect it.

What function does that serve, I'm a complete noob but trying. Thanks!
