Was driving today with my buddy behind me and he said he saw a big flame shoot out of my exhaust. I think it was when i was going from 3rd-2nd gear, but im not exactly sure. I also sometimes smell gas when i first start driving the car after it has been sitting for a while (overnight), but ive heard that is also normal sometimes on the 1g, but is it on the 2g?. Thought those 2 were possibly related. Mods are in profile, but im running 14b at around ~14-15psi, so if anything i should be running lean not rich, right? Running rewired fuel pump, and ive just assumed it was a factory replacemet, girl i bought it from said it was replaced, but i guess it could always be a 190lph or something? but not too likely. Also i did some searching and read that running with no cat could cause this, which is what i am doing, and also it could be the fuel filter, which i have a new one so im going to try to replace that tomorrow regardless.

Plan to get AFPR sooner later, but i would rather get a FMIC or injectors + DSMLINK first.

Any suggestions?

*edit* bov isnt venting to atmos

Aren't big flames cool tho?

No cat means unburnt hydrocarbons can make their way down the exhaust and ignite out the tailpipe. when you close throttle, the extra little fuel that makes its way out might cause the flames. im not sure if its normal for your tune, but SOME high performance cars get flames.

I think you answered your own question with the cat comment.
I suggest getting your fuel system all at once instead in pieces.

Yea i will probably just end up waiting, but its going to be quit a spending spree. Since i have a 95 i mine as well get dsmlink and not bother with an safc, then you figure $150-$200 for injectors, and then $~150 for an AFPR. Then whats the point of having all that if i cant run higher boost (stock smic already gets pretty hot to the touch after a run at the track, and we already know 15psi on a 14b is at or past its limit anyway), so i would then need a FMIC, so im looking at $300 for the ssac kit. DSM's sure are fun to throw money at LOL . Too bad i just spend a wad on a new clutch and flywheel, so gotta get that switched out first.

The only thing that made me worry was the smelling of fuel when i first start driving the car for the day.

yea you dont want to run more than 15-16 on stock smic.
I think you should get the front mount next ( supposing you already have a fuel pump )
That will be the next most benefital gain, and youll be able to turn up boost to about 17-18 ( at the max safe range on the 450s before running the idc too high) then save for injectors and dsm link then.

DSM's cut fuel during deceleration, this is why we are not supposed to get all those cool backfires when we close the throttle. You could check that the TPS is functioning properly (letting the ECU know when it is closed, ie: decelerating) and that you don't have a leaky injector.

Backfires seem worse without a cat, as it would usually suppresses flames.
