I have a 91 talon with the original 14b on a jdm motor with a dejon cold air intake. It boosted fine for a while after i got it but now it will not pull like usually. will only boost to 5psi in first, 12psi in second, then about 7psi in 3rd but doesnt pull like its boosting at all waht is going on????? (new to the turbo mechanic game so i have no clue what it could be ### help)

Simple things first...

-Take off your new Dejon intake pipe and spin the compressor wheel. Any shaft play? Make sure the wheel spins freely.

-While your intake pipe is off, do a boost leak test too.

boost leak or blown turbo. check the exhaust for leaks pre-turbo as well (cracked manifold, dead gasket)

Yeah i just put the dejon on about two weeks ago it ran fine but i dunno it just isnt the same now. So just pull it off spin the wheel and if it spins freeley im good or no, i also have not the slightest clue on how to do a boost leak test so let me know. thanks for the help

when u take intake off when u try to spin the wheel also check shaft play, check the side to side and in and out move ment of the turbo, that will give u good idea of the conditon of the turbo, if u have alot of movement especically in and out ## seals are starting to go or alreaduy there. and as for a boost leak test you will need a boost leak tester, ucan use this thread to help ya out

When you pull the intake off, try to spin the wheel. If it spins freely, then that's good. But also check for shaft play which invloves grabbing the nut in the middle of the wheel and try pulling the wheel in and out and side to side, and up and down. ANY in and out is bad. SOME side to side is ok and some up/dwon is ok. The less, the better.

Is there any smoke coming out of the exhaust while driving or at idle?

Yes, just pull of the intake pipe and spin the compressor wheel. Again, the wheel should spin freely. To check for shaft play, gently push the wheel side-to-side as well as in-and-out and see if it moves at all. Here is a video of someone checking shaft play on a 14b turbo.

For a boost leak test, you are going to need a couple things. First you need to either BUY or BUILD a boost leak tester. Also, you will need an aftermarket boost gauge to read the pressure in the intake system. From there, just follow the "how to" instructions in either of the below links.

Good luck! :thumb:

EDIT: two people beat me to it! I took forever getting links together. :sosad:
