Ok my 97RS ran fine until the timing belt broke a couple months ago LOL. I dished out the cash becuase I didn't have time for it, and payed a shop to do it. It's an automatic and sometimes, (strangely weather doesn't effect when) it just randomly stalls when I come to a stop light. Mind I say its an Automatic ROFL. All my friends are like WTF and so am I. I'm more familiar with the 4g63T, the 420a is a whole different ballpark to me. I've been driving like this for months, and now it's just getting annoying.

You might want to check the ignition timing after the belt has been replaced.
Even though the marks line up the ignition maybe off a lil bit.

i figured that much but wouldnt that cause it to run off and wierd all the time due to it being a mechanical driven belt? It happens sometimes and weather has no effect on it. Another thing to note, stepping on the brakes has an effect on it. If i were sitting at a light and it wanted to die, just letting off the brakes really fast it keeps it alive. If the belt was off it would run strange all the time wouldnt it? due to it being mechanical and not changing. My guess it would have to do with vac, or a sensor or something. I think i read somewhere the 420a idle is controlled by the ECU. It doesnt stall like a manual, it just shuts off to answer Chris's question

reviving a dead thread becuase I have more info to add.

Well the problem is getting pregressivly worse. Luckily I drive my TSi everyday but I run the RS every now and then. It seems to be a torque convertor problem. If I hold the brake down and give it gass and let off th gas it will die. Seems like the torque convertor is not letting go. Any input?

From your earlier post it sounded like an issuse with the IAC. Try cleaning out the TB and the IAC, it's the buttom sensor on the TB. I'm thinking your IAC is sticking and not letting air pass through to the IM, hence it shuting off from lack of air. Try posting in the 420A tech section for faster answers.
