simple flex pipe question

Still working on getting the car back on the road so I don't know exactly how bad of a problem I have but its still a problem.... I just finished swapping a six bolt into the talon and i noticed that when i rev the engine I get a little puff of exhaust gas coming up through the engine bay. I found that its seeping out of the flex pipe on the 3inch down pipe I have. its not leaking out of one end or the other but rather just kinda oozing out of the whole thing about the point I start making boost.

This is my first experiences with a flex pipe because the other cars I have owned have had the engine pointed in the proper direction... so forgive my ignorance on this.

the car has been sitting for the past 4-5 years before i bought it judging by the inspection stickers. so my question is how long do these flex pipes last? will it out right fail soon or will it hang in their for a few more thousand miles? on the outside the thing looks mint, just as shiny as the rest of the exhaust.

what are your thoughts on this, again I feel like an idiot after having built 4 exhausts and never having had to deal with it. so thanks in advance

Im not sure what you mean there.

Flex pipes are used for vibration/engine movement. The exhaust is hanging in a tight spot and the motor is flexing back and forth yet the downpipe is tight to the turbo.
Somethings gotta give.

How do you know it leaks exhaust under boost? Do you drive and look under the car at the same time?

Its not going to fall apart if thats what youre asking but yes they do leak if they have a hole in them.

yea sorry about the bump but I'm ordering parts and kinda wanted to know whether or not I'm gonna need this soon and might as well order it now.

I wish that i could! make life easier. I guess i phrased that wrong, it starts to leak about the same time as the turbo begins to spool when its up on the stands, it can stay below that rpm with out ever leaking.

thats the real curious bit. it has no holes and it isn't leaking from any specific place the whole thing just starts kinda wafting smoke from the whole weave uniformly as the rpms build up. its very odd... if it was a hole or leaking out one end i would just know to replace it ...

Well if its that bad, you can just order a new downpipe. You cant just get a flexpipe section without having to weld it in.

i could weld in a new one easy enough, would probably be better than replacing the 3inch down pipe if i don't need too. I can tolerate the flexpipe doing what its doing for right now if you don't think its gonna fail outright any time soon..
