It was under my battery box. I'm rereplacing a few vac lines as I'm waiting for a new halfshaft to come in. This one had nothing coming out the front. I dont like when vac lines aren't there

I believe that is the purge control valve for the evaporative emissions. It is part of a system that vents fuel vapors from the gas tank.
 
So I now understand it's purpose. Maybe this is a dumb question. Is it needed? and if it is, where do I run that line to? I'm at work, and my manuals are at home. I'd like to stop on the drive home and grab anything I may need to hook it up if it's necisarry
