Calgary,
Alright I imported a GSX a year ago or so and had at DTR mod done to it at the dealership to get it ready to pass the federal inspection. I've since sold the car and bout another one (cant help it). Now I have to get this one back into inspection but im being a cheap ass and dont want to spend the 100 bucks to get it done.

When they installed the first one, it wasnt an actual DTR module. Rather it was a hack coming from a tapped wiper motor wire. Apparently they're hot when the ignition is turned to on and what they did was wire a relay under the hood and had a wire under one of the connectors in the fuse block. It wasnt really attached, they just pulled one of the relays from under there and mashed it down over this peice of wire.

I know this probably sounds very vauge, but I'm wondering if there's anyone out there familiar with the electronics wiring that could give me a hand figuring out what type of relay (model # if possible) they would have used and the general wiring for it. I just need this to pass inspection and then its going into show mode, so I'd rather not have a dealership mucking about drilling holes in my fenders to mount relays.

Any help apreciated!

My daytime running lights are just my foglights on, without the headlights being on.

I use it on gloomy/cloudy daytime weather. Or just before it becomes night. Regularly, your foglights only work with the headlights on, with that mod, you can turn it on with just the parking lights (headlights off). That might serve well enough as DRL.

DRL's are a requirement in canada?!

It's why we got stuck with the stupid things here. GM went whining to Congress that it was costing them too much to build two different lighting systems, so they got the worms to think they're a good idea. And, like a third brake light, they are- to those drivers who aren't used to seeing them. But with practice, everyone ignores them as well. :toobad:

I thought we had an article about converting, but I can't find it if we do.

They sell everything you need at Canadian Tire to set up the DRLs..

I don't see what's to bi*** about with them.. who cares? it's a good idea.. especially here on the westcoast where some days are pretty dark in the winter.

I don't have any links but they've done studies and such.. it's not so much not being able to see cars without lights in the day.. but on darker days they can catch your eyes from directions you're not looking right at..
