well i have gotten pretty far in assembling my engine for my Talon TSI. now i am to the point where i don't have all the screws and bolts i need for certain peices; Water pump, Oil filter system, even the oil pan. if anyone knows where i can get these screws and bolts very easily. also there are some of the skirting issues. where can i find door skirting along the bottom for the various cars? i have an Eclipse that is my daily driver and i need a new door and skirting.

one last thing. is anyone has ideas and or tips i can use for installing the new engine in the Talon once its complete i would appreiciate it very much. thanks.

What manual do you have/are you using? I would suggest finding a more in depth manual (such as the CD manual) that can give you your bolt/screw dimensions and directions on how to replace the motor. You can also look for this info on vfaq.com.

I'd suggest reading up ALOT before you try to swap the motor if this is your first one.

see if you cant find a car in a junk yard to get the parts you need, you can also probably find a door and skirt at one if you call around. makes sure you tell them that you want an eclipse or talon with the 4g63t in it or you might end up goin some where that only has the 420a. good luck bro

haha first off i am not doing this myself....im more of the 18 yr old with the master mechanic father. and he knows his stuff man lemme tell you. i'll give you the base. basically i have the Talon and it has an engine in it...but the rods are blown. so with the car came a second engine and few odd parts. well now we are at the stage where some of the components either don't have screws or don't fit. we have a pretty good manual...i don't have it on me but its been a lot of help...on my end at least. but it didn't occur to me to find the bolts at the junk...i'm retarded. but the door and other things i need for my Eclipse well the door is like 500 dollars and thats without the mirror....kinda stupid if you ask me. oh would a door per say from a laser fit the eclipse as long as i find the molding of the eclipse?

Yes, the door will fit. Oh, and clean up your grammar a bit or you might end up getting a PM from a mod.

If the car came with one motor in it and a second motor. Why not take the bolts off the other motor?

actually i told dad that but he decided that he wants to completely assemble this engine before we rip the old one out and put the new one in....why i don't know i usually don't second guess him. does anyone have any tips for reinstalling the new motor in the car? i would love those and it might surprise my dad to have a little knowledge of it before we do the swap.

vfaq.com --> click on engine at the top --> first article in the list, gives directions and some pictures of what is needed.

$500 for a door is rediculous, I was going to also suggest mitsubishigraveyard.com and maddsm.com along with scoping out junk yards but you're way the hell up there... :(

see i got into a fender bender with a minivan that got in my way so i actually need more than the door. the door was backed into two weeks later. i also need a new hood, bumper, passenger lights and covers. other than that the car is in good shape haha. but yea...i live way up here...its nice though. now i am working on my car check by check ut i have most of the parts i need to finish the assembly on the engine.by next few questions are of the turbo and BOV and intercooler systems. i want to rip the whole turbo assembly apart and clean everything and put it all back together.

but i am also looking to put power into my car while i'm still building it so if anyone has some great ideas that i can use for the car after i have gotten the engine in. i mean i have looked at a lot of the forums and done research on the internet but i still don't know what all the companants even do. like the MAF and the ECU. i mean i realy want to have a pretty powerful car when i am done even if it takes a while so if i could get some help. that would be awesome. thanks in advance

what are you wanting to start your upgrades with? What kind of H.P. numbers are you looking for? Do you plan on making your car one for the track or street? If you answer these questions it will help us steer you in the right direction. Upgrades with the turbo and fuel system are a good way to start and from there you can go on. It helps with really big numbers if you stroke the motor to a 2.3 or 2.4 that will help with big boost in power as well. Good luck.

He was asking for tips on sropping the engine in. The easiest way to do it is to actually put the car up on a lift and drop the car down onto the engine.

If you don't have a lift, then you can use a cherry picker to drop it in from the top. Before you even try to drop it in, do a couple things.

1. Take off the hood
2. Take out the fans and readiator,
3. Unbolt all of the power steering pump assembly stuff thats bolted inside the engine bay.

This will give you alot more room to work with when dropping the engine in. Trust me, you'll need it. I actually ended up having to drop my engine and tranny in from the top bolted together, so it can be done.

Also, make sure you don't let the engine off the cherry picker until all the motor mounts have been secure, if you do, it puts alot of stress in the wrong places.

Startup: Ok, so this is a very, very highly debatable topic, but I just put $6000 into my engine, and this is how I'm starting mine up. So take it as you will...

-Don't use synthetic oil, the rings are brand new, and need to have a little bit of friction with the piston walls in order to seat properly.

-When you first start the car, let it idle on its own up to operating temp. Make sure you keep an eye out for oil, and coolant leaks. Chances are, you will probably have a few.

-When the car reaches operating temp, turn it off, let it cool and repeat that process 3 times.

-Change the oil, then go drive it. Make sure you change the oil often during the first 500 miles. There are alot of mechanical parts moving that shave metal off spreading throughout your engine, so the first few oil changes are the most important you will do.

Good luck.

ude that is an awesome thing to know. that whole start-up sequence helps a lot. but also. in the question of the H.P. goals and whether i be street or track. its going to be my daily driver on top of i want about 250 hp at the wheels and it would hopefully be just for when some guy thinks he's cooler than me in his car. i don't want to make ppl thik i just want a car i can go street racing with and get a bad name on the cars because i don't.

and i have a hydrolic lift that i can use for the engine drop. but with the question of the tranny and egine drop....u had to put them in together? is it possible to leave the transmission in? the car just needs an engine swap. it already has a new clutch and rebuilt tranny in it.
