Whats goin on guys....im planning on rebuilding my 1g 6 bolt engine. I already have a remanufactured cyclinder head and plan on buying a complete short block. I plan on getting a turbo eventually so i was wondering...instead of buying the n/t short block and changing the pistons, could I buy the turbo short block with turbo pistons to support a turbo in the future. Also will the engine run alright with a lower compression ratio without a turbo? I also have a fidanza lightened flywheel and a 6 puck clutch I will be installing with the new engine. I think it would be best to break in the engine and clutch at the same time. Therefore the engine will be broken in by the time i get a turbo kit. I need some advice guys...I have parts just lying around and my 6 bolt has 125k miles...time to get a fresh built engine

Huh, wow. I am working on nearly that exact same project. I am rebuilding a 91 NT, but I am on the quick and cheap with it, we have to have it running reliably, soon.

You could buy a turbo shortblock, or just put low compression pistons in your NT block. It will work out similarly, though the turbo block has oil squirters. And, with low compression and no turbo, it will lack alot of power.

As anyone who has had a blown turbo or an intercooler pipe blow off witha blow through setup will tell you, the turbo engines when running NA will barely get out of their own way. I don't know about the electronics, but the rest of the stock turbo parts really aren't that much. Even if you can't find it at a junkyard, a used manifold and 14b, stock exhaust, and stock intake/intercooler setup won't cost you more than about 400 bucks. You might as well just bring it to a stock turbo, and then if you want to upgrade down the road, sell off the stock parts for the same you have into them. Either way, good luck with the swap.
