aight guys ive got a pretty bad vavle tap on my first gen so im looking for some advice and opinions on what to do....
first..... i have a 2g head that has no issues only thing is the cams are taken out, so i was wondering, what are the gains from a 2g head on a 6bolt (if any). also what all do i need to do to complete the swap i.e parts mods. and should i use the 1g cams or 2g cams? i thought i heard there was something that made the 1g's a lil better but not sure?
second... or would i just be better off rebuilding my 1g head. thanks in advance for any advice or opinions you guys never fail me thanks again dan

you can get rid of the lifter tick very easily. Just get a set of revised 3g lifters. They are really simple to put in. You can find a write up on it www.vfaq.com. Its most likely not your head that is the problem.

but if it is lifter tick would it hurt perfomance? im kinda confused on this one. because you can always hear the ticking, but it seems like when i hit boost itll feel okay for a sec and the loose power. i think i read somewhere on here that if the knock sensor picks up the ticking itll retard your timing , would this be the reason for the power lose? thanks for your responce.

Sounds dumb but whenever I start getting lifter tick I know Its time for an oil change. I change it with Mobil 1, and it goes away again.

thanks for the post. i actually changed my oil and then this occured like 4 days later after a run in w/ a mustang cobra. im so confused on this one

If the lifter tick is bad enough, it can register as knock, and the ECU will pull timing. This may be what's causing the loss of power. If you have a logger, take a look at knock count.

If it's just lifter tick, it won't hurt anything other than phantom knock, and I agree with the suggestion of installing revised (3g) lifters. I believe they're like $120 for the set, and everyone says lifter tick is gone for good then. If you're on a budget, you can just clean the old lifters, but carefully follow the instructions on the vfaq either way. If $120 is in your budget, you'll have the lifters out either way, so putting in the 3g lifters makes the most sense from a labor standpoint.

If you do it, adding a tech article with pictures would be great! ;)
