well just got a new head for my g1. i was puting my old cams back in the new head. No big deal right? well all the valve will not shut the are stuck open alittle bit? wel lthen i tried it on my old head samething? i just put roller in ? are all the rollers the same or different. i know the valve can't be bent because it is brand new head what can be the problem? NEED HELP ASAP!

well a TDC not any of the valve are opendo right? does it matter what roller goes on what cam is there a order? same with the lifters? i took all them out and never maked them so yea ? please help!

Nope. At TDC cylinder 1 the valves for cylinder 4 should be in overlap with both intake and exhaust open since it just finished the exhaust stroke and begining the intake one. Cyl 1 just finished the compression stroke and is beginiing the power.

As far as order goes.. if you installed aftermarket cams.. no biggie. However... the cam caps all should be in the same order facing the same direction.

Just be careful when reinstalling the head... you might scratch/gouge and make some sharp edges perfect for detonation.

If you are just putting it together and the lifters have not been bled down the valves will hang open until the valve springs bleed the lifters back down. It usually takes a couple hours or overnight to bleed back down.

bleed down what is that? how do i do that!

The manual would have told you to fill the lash adjusters up with oil pumping them with a metal wire to open the check valve in the base until the air bubbles stopped and then take them out of the oil and hold the valve open to drain the oil before installing.

The manuals for some of the other cars, like the 3000GT, tell you to use clean diesel fuel to prime the adjusters and install them full. The diesel will leak down quickly under the pressure of the rollers while still lubing the adjuster during startup.

the little hole in the lifters? i am so confused. i tried to push that hole in with a paper clip but it didn't work? should i be able to push the lifters in with littler force? is the lifter is what is making the valve not close all the way!

where can i get this tool i have them in motor oil 10w30 but i don't know what that is helping me? so what is this tool is there somehting you can use instead of the tool?

Just put the top end togther, set up the timing belts and put the front end of the engine togther. By the time you are done the ajusters should have bled down. There is a meatered blead in the ajusters. The worst case is put it all togther go in and get a good nights sleep and check them in the AM.

The other way is crude but it works is pull each ajuster put them in a vice length wise with the oil feed hole down and put a rag under it. Comperss the vice until the ajuster bottoms out. Do it 2 or 3 times to make sure all the oil is out of the ajusters and reinstell.

When it starts you will think the top end is coming apart but it will quiet down after about 15min.

As I was sayng both ways have worked for me, take it or leave it.

well i dont know what the problem is anymore all i know is that the valve will not shit all the way with the cams in the head? i have two head does the same thing i have used the same lifter and rollers and cams. i am scared to put it all together and crank it? it could tap the piston or somethjing right?

Read it.

there it is again...

not all tje valve close i understand the firing order. in when its not there time to open they are open alittle bit

Well rotate the assembly and watch the rocker arm, cam lobe and valve. Your valve(s) *may* not be seating properly. When the lobe is at minimum the valve should be closed, when the lobe is at maximum, the valve should be open.

I had the same problem

throw out the 1g lifters. Order new 3g lifters online. I tried to bleed mine, prime them, tried a second set of 1g's, all with the same results. I replaced them with the big oil hole 3g and the valves snapped shut, and the car ran like a champ.

even my machine shop was baffled by it. The new lifters worked great.

And how pray tell do you know the valves are not shut? With the head bolted down you would need Xray vision to know what is going on inside the chamber.

This doing it on a bench is not a true test for what is going on when every thing is set up ready to run.

to clarify for the o.p ... the 3g lifters aren't out of 3g eclipses... but they're the 3rd generation revision.
