i just did a trans swap and the car wont go in gear ....i know its something todo with the clutch ### it goes in when off and it wont go in while its on itll just like creep forward when i pull on the lever ..... before i bleed the system and adjust it i know that the shift fork has some play on the ball i think this is the problem.... what do you guys think?? and please tell me i can fix this without having to take the tranny off again .... the play was like up and down on the ball not side to side but whenever i was moving the fork back and forth it seemed to be working but i dunno

true... im doin that as soon as my boy gets here.... i dont think its that tho ### i never did anything that air should have gotten in there so i thought ide get ome opinions first

## clutch master cylinder could be bad. thats what happened when i put in my shep tranny. It wouldnt go into any gear unless the car was off.

ya but it was fine before i pulled the trans and that was only yesterday....i just looked at it to and it looked fine... im thinking either the sytem needs to be bled or the fork is ####ed up..... i dont think i need to adjust the clutch ### i didnt do anything to the clutch i just did a straight trans swap

After you have bled the system and ruled that out, start by checking the rubber hosed part of the hydraulic line (from master to slave). Have someone pump the press the clutch pedal as you watch/feel this hose. As it gets old, it tends to expand with the pressure of the fluid, not allowing the slave cylinder rod full travel. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the shift cables. After that, and confirming that your slave and master cylinders are good, you're going to need to drop the transmission. On the same note, what year transmission are you using?
Don't throw money or extra work at it until you have checked and double checked everything else.

How did it shift before you swapped tranny's?
If it shifted fine then the pivot ball on the tranny is worn and needs replaced.
If not, then its either the pivot ball, slave, master cylinder, or the bolt that holds the 5th gear in place under the end cover of the tranny is loose and needs tightened

ps i was just reading the vfaq on bleeding the system and when i was saying the shift fork they call it the clutch release arm... i dunno if its just different terminology or not i just didnt wanna confuse anyone

tru i was so tired my brain wasnt working right whenever i was posting ..... well i bled the system and adjusted the clutch all the way out and nothing..... im guessing its gotta be the clutch fork... again i know there was some play on it so im 95% sure that thats it.... is there anything else it could be and can someone explain why it does this

Is your slave cylinder moving the clutch fork at all? Did you remove the pp at all during the trans swap?

LOL all 1g have this problem that have high milage you have to change pretty much the hole clutch system and shim out the clutch fork with some washers

i had the same problem i ended up getting new slave master ss clutch line ss longer rod installed new clutch pedal shimed the fork ball out and took the restrictor out of the slave and it fixed it its alot of work but its worth it
