Resolved Didn't get 2G DSMLink cable

well first i want to say that my shift key isn't working so sorry for no capitols. i bought a car eclipse a few months ago and it has dsmlink already installed. the guy said he didn't have an extra cable but insured me i could buy a new one from there site. i didn't know anything about dsmlink really and i hadn't read the site yet about how you cant get new cables.

so now i'm stuck with no cable and dsmlink. i cant really blame the guy cause i don't know if its a false copy or if he knew that you couldn't buy new cables. i'm trying to get a hold of the guy to transfer the dsmlink to mine name and get a user name and password but i still don't think that i can get a cable even then.

i looked on the classifieds and on the net but i couldn't find just a cable. so my question is does anyone know a place were i can get a cable or know any alternative. i know they say there cables are the only ones that could work but i just wondered if anyone knows anything. thanks

You can always try e-mailing [email protected] and see if there's any way they could help you (although I know they stopped replacing cables because people just kept saying they have legit copies of DSMLink to get a cable). Other than that, I'd just keep bugging the person you bought it from to get the cable and the 'registration' of DSMLink (so to say) transferred so you can use it and the forums.

Yeah, they don't resell cables because that essentially is the heart of dsmlink. The chips were too easily copied and burned, apparently. Even if you transfer registration, it seemed clear from what I read that they would not replace a cable. Another way to put it; replacement of the cable costs $565+shipping.

That being said, I would first contact dsmlink and tell them your situation, and ask if the previous owner transfers registration can they then give a discount on the cable. If that doesn't work, I would contact the previous buyer and get some money back. He promised you a dsmlink that you could get a cable for later, which is completely not true.

That's the most important thing! The cable...on 2Gs and the memory board in 1Gs. Is this on a 1G car? Pull the ECU, open it up and post a picture of the memory board. Why on earth did you finalize the deal before asking or confirming with the DSMlink guys? You might have been taken.

why on earth did i do it, well probably because i didn't know..... i think it goes without saying that i wouldn't have done it if i had any clue. how would i know that people were coping these things and dsmlink wasn't reselling cables. i had no problem with buying a new cable.

its on a 2g car and so far it seems that jumpfroggy is right if i cant get a cable somewhere else it will cost me the 565 plus shipping. thanks anyway though guys

You selling that ECU, or just the dsmlink eeprom alone would benefit someone like myself. I have 2 95 GSXs, one has dsmlink already (legit w/cable) and the other is stock 95 w/eeprom. I would just have to get it socketed, pop that extra chip in, and use the existing cable I have depending on which car I use.

If you manage to buy another 2g it can also work out in your favor.

Ha! It's like me; I'm an incredibly careful buyer, I research everything and read read read, and then look at a whole bunch of cars. Then I get impatient and end up buying an ebay-turboed piece of junk (not DSM, wont say what it was) and it dies soon after. Then gets stolen. Then gets replaced by a 2G turbo and I'm happy.

And then I buy a motorcycle with heavily-leaking front forks. I really had no clue what I was doing when I got into it.

But hey, that's how we learn. pjhale, I hope you didn't pay too much considering the dsmlink cable. But looking at the specs, it looks pretty nice. As long as it's tuned well for now, just consider it like a burned chip (until you remove battery power, that is). If you upgrade or are concerned with losing the settings, I'd get on that dsmlink cable. It stinks that the guy lost it, but if you ignore the fact that it's already on the car, it would be the next thing you would buy anyway.
