Ok, so I just bought a 2.3 stroker kit. Should I go ahead and put it in my near stock talon tsi now or wait until I get the rest(fp3065 turbo, fuel, etc) ? It would be better if I can just put it in now because there will be less to do later and the engine would be broken into. And is there any special way to break in the engine after a stroker kit install ?

There are two theories about how to break in a newly built engine, some say drive it easy, some say drive it hard. I'm one of the ones who believes you should drive it hard to get the proper ring wear. I believe that by breaking it in hard the seal between the rings and cylinder is better.

Assuming you're still using a T25, I'd probably put the stroker kit in now and run the living piss out of the small turbo. But I also would have no reason to keep the T25 in good condition. You'll have boost right off of idle and higher air temps, which would be more aggressive wear on the rings and hasten their break in, if you subscribe to the theory that I do. But, you could also decide to wait for the bigger turbo as the T25 will run out of steam quickly on a stroker and boost will fall off in upper rpms, lessening ring wear a little.

I would wait to do a full swap. Getting to the turbo and everything else while you have the motor out and on an engine stand will be way easier to work on. I don't believe in the break in perid of driving like miss daisy. Drive it like you want. I think the 300 or 500 mile rule is a myth. I dropped a motor in my eclipse and drove it hard right away. I also did a 350 swap in my chevelle and got on it hard within 50miles of installing it.

Well, I think i'll just put it in now. It can't hurt anything, so why not.

Ok, I got a 95 talon tsi awd. Is that a 7 bolt motor ? Im pretty sure it is. Well it better be because thats what I got it for.

Than I guess you never put a motor in before.
No, not a 4G63.
So you've tried doing it both ways? I really wouldn't wanna risk scratching up a 3065. I'd drop the longbock and then assemble the turbo system.

Enlighten me on your method please, if there's a better way I'd really like to know for when I get ready to drop in a 64 block.

You wont install a motor with a turbo on it because you dont want to scratch the turbo??

I think I understand what Delta is talking about.

I believe in breaking in an engine with a used turbo as any metal particles from the new engine build can float into the oil stream and ruin that precious piece of metal we call a turbo.

Changing the oil very frequently, as you should, when finishing a build is something not to forget.

Dan, a break-in for a stroker 4g and the break-in for a 5.0 mustang is the same deal. Break it in like youre going to drive it. You will hear EVERY opinion on engine break-in and NO one is wrong. Its pretty much a preference.

Yes you must change your oil often. Your oil filter will catch alot of the small peices of junk from the build but some will still sit in the oil pan after you let it sit for awhile. My engine builder said do it at 300 miles, 500 miles and 1000, then go back to your 3000. Best bet is not to drop anything harmful in the motor while building it.:thumb:
