Ok so I just got this car as a no run. I got it towed to my place and fixed all the leaks I saw. I changed the plugs and I've yet to change the wires...unless 2am's too early...er too late??
Anyways, I did all my QUICK maintenance because the woman was rushing me to go play poker....I know ;)
I get my plugs in, my BOV recirc on the intake tube plugged....stock tube is AWAL, new battery I throw some 5 gallons of fresh fuel in her(fresh as in 5 gal of 85[I completely forgot about the high octane...honest] octane in a previously used 2 stroke fuel can with remnance of 2 stroke oil). I fixed the missing i/c hose clamps....(duuuh) and checked everything. I went to start her up and all I got was cranking at first. I cranked and cranked then I put my foot into her, I got a semi start, I kept cranking and EVENTUALLY she REV MATCHED the starter, I let the key out and she was BARELY running and stalled. I tried again, i cranked and cranked and FINALLY with my foot allll the way in for about 10 seconds she stayed alive for just enough time to start to idle. She idled at 400-500 for about 10 seconds with my foot all the way in and after letting out she started to idle at around 800 pitifully...eventually I reved her. I reved her to about 2500 which took me about 5-6 seconds to get to that point. I let her idle again, slowly settling, I SLOWLY(same as the time before) revved her again with the same effect.

She WAS NOT totally warm when all this went down because, obvously, like I said, I was rushed. So, i'll try again tomorrow with more time. Anyways, I called my, SAE Certified, father up(as of 1986ish) and he told me whenever a Chevy 350 is out of time, thats the exact symptom it makes. Since I've never owned this car running, I assumed thats POSSIBLE. Unlikely I guess, I'm taking it to him tomorrow to throw our minds together to come up with a diagnosis and I thought i'd throw it past a few people that knew what they were talking about.

Obvously, it gets spark, fuel is fresh and questionable and air is a given. The intake tube has a plug in the bov recirc tube and all the clamps are tight.... I havn't really checked the lower IC pipes. I ASSUME they're tight but with the WRECKLESS previous owner(another story trust me) you never know. I'm thinking if the timing is OFF then the vales are bent...I'll do a compression test first thing tomorrow with a warm engine.

Anyways, this isn't much of an informative post yet I'm just curious if anyone else has seen these problems and come across a certain fix.

I will update early tomorrow but if I can get just a TID BIT of info i'd REALLY appreciate which direction I SHOULD be heading...

Thanks in advance!!!

EDIT: If I can figure out how to use my video camera with my computer(Sony HandyCam DCR-TRV310 NTSC, i've got a few random cables from the rents as a hand me down.......COMPUTER: C2D E6700, GeForce 7900GTX, 1G ram...forget which kind...fast I guess...Antec I guess this doesn't matter) If you can help IM on AIM Docsdaname20001 :(

Ok, I don't mean to bump my own thread but I was JUST about to goto bead, I took out the trash and couldn't help but take a drive around the block. I let started it, it only took maybe 2 cranks of the starter to start it, I let it warm up only for a brief second making sure not to piss off the near dead neighbors downstairs as it IS almost 3....about time for those guys to wake up...any who.
I pulled out, went down the street, turned, I didnt' give it too much gas, I turned again onto another street and was worried I wouldn't' be able to get back up to my spot since it was uphill....I turned and started up the hill. I didn't have ANY problem going up the hill. If I would have revved her a little and given her some clutch it seems as though she would have made it safe. Luckly I didn't need any of that but it turns out maybe she just need some warming up and some more maintenance.

**IMPORTANT**

I checked the oil and it was still golden, I checked the antifreeze and it's FRESH!. It seems as though someone has taken a few minutes to do diligence upon this beauty. Anyways. I'm still having a SLLLOOOOWWW rev...Like REAAALLLYYY slow...

EDIT!!!:

I heard a rubbing in the timing belt area while it was running, both times. I'm not quite sure what it is just yet....just thought i'd throw that out there. I will MOST LIKELY be doing a timing belt soon but I REALLLLLLLY dont want to. ugh...ANYWAYS, those are the issues. I think i've thought of all of them.....

EDITTT!!! last time I promise!!!

I'm throwing a code. Not sure since my dataloggers not in service at the moment...

Well I did a compression test. I'm getting 120 on the first two, 110 on the 3rd and 130 on the fourth. The previous owner said something about the valves being bent but I figured they dont know much....I'm not sure if he may be right or not, lets hope not.
I also havn't been able to check that code yet because my logger cable decided to take a crap on me. Now i have to order one of those...
When I pulled the plugs, I noticed that the two plugs on the outer most side of the engine are sooty with a white tip. I've only had the plugs in the car long enough to start it 3 times and take it up and down the block twice. The inner most set are clean like, never been used clean. Its weird.
Also, my throw out bearing is making a squeeking noise when the engine gets warmed up. Not relevant but still...

Turbo has a little bit of shaft play. About 1.5mm up and down, no in and out.

The revs are still throwing this car on its face. I can't even drive it on the street.

Anyways, thats my issue.

I have had slow revving like that on two other cars (non DSM's). In one case, it was timing that was WAY off. In the other case, it was because 2 of 4 cylinders were not firing, due to horribly low compression. In the low compression case, I had to crank it a while to get it to fire, then it would be very "mushy" on the revs, and rev super slow with no power.

Wow well I appreciate the reply. Gotta love when the worst case scenario works out for ya eh? Maybe I should just pull the head anyways. Then i can retime it in the process...hmmm

i've been desperately trying to check my ecu codes. I think god doesn't want me to figure this out....I just went to try and find my dads ohm meter and the exact place I remember seeing it....wasn't there for some GOD AWFUL reason. It's gone. I've been trying to figure out my pocketlogger cable. RIGHT before I stepped out the door. Literally RIGHT before, it stopped working. It wouldn't sync to the computer or the car NOTHING. ITS A GOOSE EGG! Then I've been trying a Palm emulation software on my laptop and thats not ####ing working even after spending all last night on a cable that i had to resolder twice. God hates me apparently. Then I tried to make an LED light to see the trouble code pulses from the the ecu and It DOESN'T ####ING WORK... I'm getting really frusterated because i can get the part off of my parts car from Denver which isn't exactly next door... and if I can't figure out what it is before we leave tomorrow i'll have to wait till next weekend. I'm losing sleep over this shit.

Anyways, this is turning into a bitchfest...

I dont have a buzzer and I dont have a damn ohm meter to check this dumbass car. Anyone have any other bright ideas?

Alright guys....since i've had so many replies I figured i'd let you all know what was wrong...

I FINALLY was able to check my CEL with my laptop and it came out to be ignition module/coil. I changed those two out and it works GREAT. I've got a few other issues to work out but yeah, thats another thread if it comes to that.
