The black top part of my 91 eclipse is faded and has spider web cracks all over so im going to paint it. The car is Brazil Green right now. I going to keep it that color but put 2 black racing stripes down the middle. What should I do with the top? Paint it black with a heavy coat of clear coat like it is stock? or Paint it the same as the rest of the body(brazil green) and continue the stripes across it?

I think the 1G cars look best with a black top for the most part. Of course, there will always be some exception, but I say stick with the black top. I suppose you could "Targa Stripe" it and paint the B pillar and roof section body color, with the actual roof black still.

Hope that made sense.

i would paint the roof to match but not do the racing stripes. i think stripes should stay on older american muscle cars

Keep it black. They just dont look right when the top is painted the same color.

I painted the top of my 1g to match (white) and did not like it near as good as when it was black. If I paint it ever again, the top will be the black that it is suppose to be.

I have a 1991 Pontiac Firebird and 1998 Firebird so im used to the muscle car look, which racing stripes look good on. From the bird to dsm is a BIG change.. :(

You do have a point. Muscle cars look good with stripes but DSM's dont fit that look

Well if your a GM man, how about emulating the famous ZR-1 fender stripes. Except use say, Road Race Enginerings color scheme. Just across the driver side fender.

Good choice to leave the firebirds in the past. Very few cars look good with racing stripes imo. Look into carbon its my rice mod of choice :)

Paint it the stock color and put on several coats of clear, not just 1 big time heavy coat.

Alright, I post some pictures soon, I got the car for $550 and Im planning on "riceing" it out, but im going for preformance too. I think im going with a green scheme.

That's brutal honesty, right there.

LordZed, you're tempting me to stripe the "good fender" on my car, RRE/ZR-1 style. Very class idea.
