Anyone know how to fix a bad Reed Switch?

It seems as though my reed switch is going bad. I've been dealing with it for long enough, and I would like to know if there is a way to fix it (I haven't taken out my gauge cluster so I don't even know what the reed switch looks like) short of replacing the gauge cluster. Anyone ever fix one?

I don't know of a reed switch in a 2G gauge cluster.

Exactly, there is one in a 1G since we don't have the electrical sensor in the trans or the electric speedometer.

Mr. Steve, what sort of problem are you having that makes you think the reed switch is bad?

I was under the impression my speedometer was controlled by a reed switch. I guess I should have done a little more research :coy: ...

My speedometer shows that I'm doing around 50-60mph when I'm doing anywhere from 10-75mph. It starts at 0 (of course) and moves up quickly to 50-60mph as I start rolling up to and beyond about 10mph. My speed sensor plug is securely attached to the speed sensor on my transmission, and when I hook up my logger as I'm driving it displays the proper speed. Whatever mechanism controls my speedometer I'm assuming is the culprit. Thanks for the help, guys!

If the logger shows the correct speed but the speedometer doesnt, it is a problem with the speedometer itself or wiring to the speedometer.. As stated, the reed switch is only found in the 1g. Even if you did have a reed switch, it would show an improper speed on the logger since that is what the ecu uses to monitor vehicle speed.

Sounds good. I'll probably tear it out of there pretty soon and check for loose wiring.
