Alright, So a local has a complete motor for sale but its been disassembled. He is saying that it is a 6 bolt. My question is, how to I tell a difference in the block?

I know the oil pans are different and the crankshaft has only six bolts but how do I tell if the block is actually a 6 bolt.

Also if the block is a 1g 7bolt, would it be ok to put a 6 bolt crankshaft in it and would that make it a 6 bolt.

Some one Please let me know!!!

Thank You Everyone!!!!

But its all disassembled, so the cranks could have been switched out.

Thats why I need a way to tell the actuall difference in the blocks!!!

It is the flywheel that actually has 6 or 7 bolts in it, not the crank. Look at where the flywheel bolts on and count the number of holes. Should be simple. The crankshafts are different and not interchangeable. The 1g crank is longer. Also, you can not make a 1g 7 bolt into a six bolt. Although 1g 7 bolts are thought to crankwalk less.

Also......Would I be able to tell from the main journals and the crank put together.

These are larger on the 1g's and I beleive the oil squirters are located in a different position.

I know the rear main seal between a 6 and 7 bolt are different, as well as the front case. Found this out when we put some new gaskets on my buddies 6-> 7 bolt conversion. The oil filter housing is different on a 7 bolt also I think, but maybe the 91-94 are the same, not sure.
