I got my sportline springs installed this week along with a front and rear camber kit at a shop here called Speed Factory. The problem I see is that even after the rear kit is installed, my rear wheels still seem to butterfly in a little bit. I have to take it back this friday to get an allignment its off really bad). My question is, will getting an allignment help with the camber problem? Or will it just adjust the toe? Any input will help. Thanks

Unless your shop does not have the ability to do alignments, I would have expected them to align it after your spring/camber kit(s) installation.

An alignment is a MUST after any change or modification to your suspension. If you have a front and rear camber kit installed an alignment shop will be able to adjust them appropriately and get your car in spec.
Be prepared for the possibility of an expensive trip to the alignment shop though, some shops are not only terribley unfamiliar with camber kits that we use on our cars but they might even charge you more to do it since our cars do not have adjustable camber (front or rear) from the factory.
Good luck!

They charged me one price for the allignment and install. They just didnt have time to do the allignment and i need my car during the day so I couldnt leave it there. Thats why I have to take it back on friday. Until then im trying not to drive too much because my tires are getting eaten up being un-alligned. I just wanna make sure that the camber should get corrected when the allignment is performed...i was under the impression that the camber kit would correct it and not the allignment.

Well, the "alignment" is just the term used for the process of aligning your car's wheels. Your car's wheel are physically "aligned" by mechanical means, usually involving some wrenching and measuring.

So in short, an alignment adjusts your car's "settings". The camber kit(s) just give another level of adjustabilty to compensate for the big drop you just gave your car. They still need to be adjusted, simply having them will not put camber in spec.

hmm, I guess that was longer than "short", eh? ;)

Haha. A little. Thanks for the info tho. I have one more question. When I upgrade my shocks, will my car drop a little more? I have seen several pics of 2gs on sportlines, and the front seems a little lower than mine (on my car the rear sits lower than the front). So if I put on some AGX's will it lower a little more? Thanks again

Hey Bigbro..

To answer your question, NO, putting on kyb AGX adjustable struts will not make your car lower. When I swapped my worn KYB GR2's to the New AGX struts, my car actually sits a few milimeters higher and its more even all around. Any new GAS CHARGED STRUTS will be better, will make your ride much better too! MAN, it was a huge difference when I installed my AGX's with my 2 inch drop! My car does not bouncer at all, and the ride is SOOOO SMOOOTH!! If you do a search on AGX stuts, you will see that there are many articles on them LEAKING or Bursting from being too low of a drop and the pistons bottom out, but KYB have fixed this problem by manufacturing short stroke ones for the 2G's, so so far, I've had them on for around 10k miles and still WORKS VERY WELL with no LEAKS, and here in hawaii, we have many HUGE POTHOLES that destroy rims, and got one of my rims, but the AGX STUTS are still fine!!

Sorry, got a little into praising the AGX's and got off topic..

What CAMBER KIT DID YOU INSTALL IN THE BACK?? THE THICK WASHERS or SHIMS AND LONGER BOLTS METHOD??? I installed RRE's rear camber correction kit and I'm about to go in for my alignment, hopefuly Its not too bad.. my rear end does still tuck in and have that BUTTERYFLY EFFECT...

TAKE CARE!

Word, another local. I got a rim taken out during the last big rains (didnt file with honolulu, should have)... and I was down by kahuna's pizza tonight, worst road ever. I've given up on my suspension at this point.

The gas charged ones are a lot better? I have GR2's now on 18's, but they're pretty rough (shake the car apart). Wouldnt mind a nicer ride.

Very competent explaination, and simple enough so everyone understands-props to you :thumb:

Sup bro..

they are all gas charged.. but after the struts/shocks wear out, which depends on your driving conditions, they wear out and the resistance becomes less and less, which in turn gives you a bouncy car. I've had great luck with AGX's so far, if I had the money, I would have gone full coilover suspension... LOL.. but this was great enough for me...

I should have filed for my rim that got all bent up, but I just used a press and bent it back to normal shape but it left a few scratches on it.

Take care!
