I'll give the basic rundown of my friends eclipse. He has a 99 eclipse gst. It was pretty fast when it was stock. We started modding it put on a greddy type s bov, 20g turbo, fmic, apexi 3" turbo back, and some other little stuff. so to the story, the car was running ok, we put on the exhaust without the muffler attached, with the 20g turbo, intercooler and bov already there, and the car ripped, felt like a mid to low 13 sec car. We put the muffler and it slowed it down to maybe a 14 sec car. then a couple weeks went by and the car just kept getting slower and slower, til now its at about the same as stock. We took it to mitsubishi and they said nothing was wrong with the car and it ran perfect. It may run perfect but its not fast, also the the boost spikes at 20 and holds 18 psi with no fuel cut. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be????

Ya get some injectros and a safc to take care of your fuel, that is if you havnt toasted the inside of your engine. Pull your plugs see if their melted

I tell people this all of the time. There's 2 things in your cylinder: Air and Fuel. You have increased one of those, and not the other.

It's like breakfast cereal man, you got your corn flakes and you got your milk. You put in 3x as much cornflakes.. you need to go to the store and get some more milk.

LOL thats a great analogy.

Detonation learned the hard way, I have seen engines destroyed from not running proper supporting mods.

:boring:

I say the same thing, but am leaning towards an increased boost leak. Get those situated and get a tuning device / fuel and tune her up. Just as a for instance, I gained 80 fwhp from just TUNING (all else equal). It's all about the tune, baby.

Thats what I was about to say. Im guessing its a boost leak. If I was your buddy I would take the MBC off and see if it stops the spike. I would also do a boost leak test. And I would not run more than 12-14psi without a logger to monitor his timing curve. He is eating up his motor and will be rebuilding soon if he keeps driving it like that.

oh i forgot to mention.... he has a walbro 255lph fuel pump, apexi boost controller, and also has a safc and 680 cc injectors not installed. he tryed putting the injectors in the car but it just flooded the motor, so he took them out. he also told me that when the car reaches full boost, the stoich gauge burys in rich. he did a compression and leakdown test also, and everything was perfect. he also just recently replaced the head because he didnt have his timing belt covers on and the alternator belt snapped and went in by the timing belt and skipped some teeth.

He needs a fuel pressure regulator for the 255 and he needs something besides an safc to control 680cc injectors. If eprom isn't an option get an emanage or maf translator just anythign that can comp. for 680's

He just needs to turn down the boost. Timing pull can make the car feel real weak. The SAFC will work on the 680's but not well, he may beable to get an ok tune but will fight timing pull. Eprom would be his best option.

props to you for making it sound so simple :thumb:

Does he have a narrowband because a narrowband will do that they are horribly inaccurate and impossible to tune with.

I like the way your thinking, But heck that really makes me hungry! LOL :thumb: :tease:

Yea you cant tune with a air/fuel gauge... they do nothing in a dsm unless you hook up a wide band......pretty much a light show. also safc and no logger?? walbro 255 and no AFPR?? .... should probably do some research...

I'm surprised that the car still runs after running that kind of boost on a 20g. Your lucky you could kill your motor with a 14b without the proper fuel... lets see
t25
14b
small 16g
big 16g
evo 3 16g
18g
20g. Wow with no fuel lucky lucky man

take the time to read the info provided on this site... I did a shit load of reading even before I bought my 2g. The faq even has the stages broken down and a good idea of what order to add mods... A 20g turbo should have been one of the last things to add. Right after I bought mine I found a 190 and some evo8 injectors. So once I get a turbo back and some sort of fuel management Ill be ready to go. If you want serious results you cant half-ass anything, hes lucky he hasnt done any serious damage..

Alright, just got this email from my guy and this is my car. As far as running a 20g turbo, up to this point I have not had a problem either with fuel cut or detonation running about 17-18 psi. Why this is I am not quite sure. 20g turbo was installed due stock turbo going bad. As far as the engine, I recently had the head off for replacement and pistons look good. I will be checking for boost leaks, lowering the boost, and installing SAFC2 with injectors.

actually he is able to run the 680cc injectors with an safc I have it with a safc 1 but I have my idle around 1200 because the low end is really rich I just need to install the link sitting in my bedroom :D
