I just want to be sure what i am talking about..

Torque helps you go fast off the line at lower rpms, and higher horsepower helps you accelerate at higher rpms.. right?

Torque makes Horsepower go. Yes having more Torque makes your car faster off the line and having more Horsepower makes your car faster in the top end, but without the 2 together you have nothing. :)

Yeah, torque is a measure of the force an engine can exert in rotational applications. HP is a product of torque, so in a very loose way, a torquey motor can create a ton of HP, but that is not always the case. Try launching a low torque motor (like ours:( ) at 2000 rpm, then try launching a high torque motor (like a 5.0 Stang:) ) at 2000rpm. This is what really cleared torque up for me.

i always thought that when youre torque starts to drop you stop accelerating as fast?

like if you look at a DSM dyno, there is not much torque in 4th+ gear so you stop accelerating as fast as you did in the first few gears, but if you had torque up to 8000 rpms you would be pulling all the way up to 8000

Torque is kinda odd. It does not affect how quickly the tires spin (right?) but it does twist the tires... I give up, how does it work again?
