I need some advice on what type of fluid to use in my 97 TSI's trans. The trans takes a solid 15 minutes to warm up and until then it's a bit clunky shifting second. I know that's a fairly common thing, but is there any particular fluid I could use to help it out a little? Maybe to either lubricate it better or just get to operating temp quicker? I'm going to have the trans cover off soon to fix my 5th gear pop out and I figure I'll use better fluid when I finish.

I was thinking use a slightly thinner oil, maybe Redline? What's a good weight to use?

Just go to Autozone and pick up 3 quarts of Pennzoil Synchromesh at 6.00/qt. Also stop by WalMart and grab one of those cheap outboard marine lube pumps so that you don't have to use funnels and hoses to fill everything up.

On an old tranny I prefer 75W-90 GL4 non-synthetic (Coastal) but many people have seen great results by switching to Synchromesh.
