Ok guys, i'm in the process of building my 7bolt block. I'm trying to take out the engine separately from the transmission. I'm wondering if there's a possibility of doing this? right now i have the head removed all UICP, radiator, turbo, a/c, etc. So, i guess the question is, will there be enough space to pry the engine and transmission far enough apart to clear the flywheel. and if so what would it take to get this to happen? thanks

The tranny case isnt that strong so applying pressure to it on accedient could result in you breaking the bell housing . Im speaking from experince . But if you try. The engine hoist should be positioned on the drivers side that way it will pull the motor up and away from the transmission side.

IMO it's more trouble then it's worth, and I'm speaking from experience. I did get the motor out without the tranny, but I damn near had to unbolt the whole tranny from everything so I might as well just have pulled the whole pack. But there is also the need to worry about damaging the transmission itself like chanley said. Also on a side not I had so much trouble pulling out just the motor I actually tore open the welds on the legs of a my cherry picker, So I really advice just pulling the whole thing as one.

I just got done pulling out my entire engine, minus the Trans. And it’s VERY possible. Just remove all the front timing misc. stuff, and remove the AC bracket; along with just about everything else. I stripped down my engine just to the block... I then put two jack stands underneath where the pil pan bolts up, and slid it off the shaft and watched it drop onto my driveway!!!! It was pretty funny. The reason I just let it drop was because the guy before me blew it apart, and I had a hole through the block; so it was worthless.
