I was wondering if a T25BB would be a safe replacement of the stock T25 turbo without any other modifications... Was considering a a larger turbo after a while, but I have just replaced my engine and have 600 miles on it as is, and the stock turbo is getting a bit sticky. For the time being, I just want to replace the turbo and would like to get that little bit extra, but not so much as to have to upgrade injectors, fuel pump, fuel management, etc.

Think this would be safe to do with the stock setup? My only mods are a Forge racing BOV and 3" exhaust...

You should be fine as long as you don't turn the boost up above 15-16lbs since the stock fuel system isn't made to do any more than that.

I just am not sure what the stock ECU envelope is with handling something with better performance, The T25 puts out around 290 CFM while something like the T28 which is very stock looking and the same housing can put out over 500 CFM, which would outrun the stock injectors ability to supply fuel and do the acetylene torch thing on my new pistons. Wish I could find more data on the T25BB. My goal is to just replace the failing turbo and avoid any shrapnel damage to my brand new rebuilt engine for the time being...

There won't be any difference in performance between a t25 and a t25bb. They are the same turbo but one has journal bearings and one has a ball bearing centersection. The only difference would be the t25bb would spool faster, if that's even possible seeing that the t25 has pretty much instant boost as it is. I would recommend you just pick up another good used t25 until you want to upgrade.

EDIT: could you please post a link to the t25bb you are talking about?

Sure, Here's the link:

I was considering just buying up someone's broken stock T25 and shipping it up to NY to be remanufactured... saw prices $50-100 for the used turbo, the ship it, the have it remanufactured for $425, so for a few dollars more it would be new, guaranteed and be a quick spooler, slightly better performer.

I was just by the garage for my 500 mile engine check and was talking to one of the owners who had built up a 600+ HP Lincoln, and I was asking hier opinion of whether going to the Disco Potato turbo, new injectors, fuel pump and engine management would be sane, and how long could you expect it to last... He told me that the trans might not hold up and he told me he had a DSM, a 3000 GT and the trans was not all that hardy. Long story short he told me not to get wild with my daily driver, and I do love the car.

Here's what they claim on the performance:

Garrett T25BB Turbo:
Garrett's T25BB (Dual Ball Bearing Center) Turbo is designed to reduce lag and improve durability. The T25BB can pump out more HP than the traditional T25, and the T25BB is perfect for Street use. You will definitely see a difference with a standard transmission when passing maneuvers or making dramatic speed increases. The T25BB is designed for quick start-up from a rolling start (say going from 10 mph to 60 mph). Although the T25BB is slightly more expensive then the T25, if you're looking for a quicker start up time and more HP, then this is the one you want to go with. Get up to 270HP for engines 1.6 to 2.0.

Those are full Garrett housings and will not bolt up to your exhaust manifold, unless you specifically have information from the vendor that they are mated to a Mitsu flanged housing.

You see people here with well over 100k on anything from 16g to 60-trim and gt30r on stock tranny, zero breakage or problems. Dunno what he's doing to his gearboxes.
