Hey guys, my car has been a little sluggish lately so I did a boost leak test and I found a small leak from one of the injectors. When I push the electric plug that is connected to the injector down, while the boost leak test is in process, the leak will stop. I am almost positive that it is caused by bad o-rings, so i want to swap in new ones. How hard is it to install these new o-rings and what should i worry about when taking off the injectors and putting them back on? Thanks a lot

If there is a write up about it that you could direct me towards, that would be great too. I tried Vfaq. Thanks again

Just unbolt the fuel rail and the inlet and outlet fitting on the fuel rail. Unplug the harness, you have to remove those little metal clips. (I use a screw driver but always end up snapping the little plastic nubs off, doesn't cause any ill effects but does someone know how to do it without breaking them?) Pull the injectors and rail out as one and replace away at the O-rings.

It is very simple to do. You simply unbolt the 3 long bolts on the back of the fuel rail, lift the rail out (injectors should stay in) and swap out the new for old (with a little lube on them). You may have to unplug the injector clips before removing the rail. If so just remove the metal retainers and slide the clips off the injectors.

The insulators are a good thing to replace, but in the mean time you may want to make sure the fuel rail is tightened down properly. Don't try too hard, you don't want to strip anything, but a little extra torque might stop the leak.

*edit* beat me to it.

Thanks bro. Thats some great information. Should I be concerned with fuel coming out when i disconnect the fuel rail? Or are you saying that I should just keep the entire assembly together. Even then, should I worry about fuel coming out of the end of the injectors? Thanks again

Those o-rings you speak of are called injector insulators. You can use your local dealer or order them from most of the big online shops. The dealership should have them in stock since they are common across most of the Mitsubishi cars.

I keep remembering things from the last time I had the rail off. You will also probably have to disconnect the fuel line along the side of the rail to lift it out properly. When you do this some fuel will spill. Try not to get to stinky and don't smoke while doing it. Other than that it shouldn't pose a problem.

also FYI, before you disconnect the fuel rail, disconnect the battery, and you know how when you loosen your fuel cap you get the whooshing sound because of the pressure inside the fuel tank,
you need to loosen the gas cap on the tank before you take off the fuel rail. if you dont the pressure in the tank will just keep pushing gas out of the line for several minutes making a mess "speaking from experiance here"
I had the same problem, i took off my o-ring seals, they were hard as a rock, coated them in patroleum jelly, let them sit 24 hours and reinstalled them, problem solved.

What he said. They are $1 each at your mits dealer. Evo uses the same ones. In fact, they can be used on most injectors at least up to 850s. I use them on my 650s.
