Are you referring to a specific BOV? Just keep it in the middle unless you're runnin high psi (25+). Different BOV's vary.
 
I've had 1st hand experience with that one. I had it set at about 75% towards hard when I was runnin 28psi on my old EVO III. It was fine. If that helps any.
 
i have the same bov, with the same turbo, running the same boost. i have it set pretty much right in the middle, leaning maybe an 18th of a turn to the hard side. on all the greddy type rs bov's you hear it release a little after a little touch of the gas. everyone i know who had it always thought it was leaking, or it was broken, but as long as you are holding boost you are fine.

All you need to know is that you're going to have to take your car out for a spin and listen for the reaction of the BOV. You do NOT want to hear pressure surge (when you hear the BOV flapping/shuttering/fluttering). This is harmful for the turbo. You want to hear a distinct release of air going back into the intake tract. If you hear a high-pitched whistling, that is fine.

Surprisingly, not every Greddy Type S is the same. They adjust at different levels. Also remember not to turn the adjustment screw too hard, or it won't open under minimal boosting/normal conditions. You're probably going to have to stop on the side of the road a few times and pop the hood until you are satisfied with the BOV's performance. It's very important to note that it takes an allen wrench to adjust the adjustment screw. If you use a regular 10mm hand wrench, you will strip the threading on the adjustment screw and thus will have an air leak to deal with.

so u dont loosen the nut with a 10mm u just use an allen wrench and that will still let you adjust ?
 
twist the nut to your desired setting and then use the allenwrench to tighten. this is so that it won't change under operation.
 
Here's the CORRECT way to set a BOV. Set up a boost leak tester and pressurize the system. Start the BOV on FULL soft. If it doesn't leak (which 99.9999% of the time it shouldn't) then you're all done. Clean everything up and call it a day. If it does leak (not likely) then just slowly tighten it down until it doesn't.

I've said this a million times before (we've had at least 23904873294823904823940823 'how do I set my BOV' topics, when will it be made sticky?) and I'll say it one more for the benefit of the new people....

The hard/soft adjustment is related to vacuum only, it is NOT for holding more boost. It is used to keep the BOV closed at idle and deceleration if that is how you choose to have it perform. This is extrememly important for people venting with stock drawthrough MAFs. If you aren't venting, set it full soft and be done with it.
