Well at first i thought it was my End clutches as people told me but if it was end clutches it would be other symptoms than this, The tranny shifts fine, no slips pr anything. The only thing is is "surges" when at cruising rpms, Does not do it at full throttle at all. only when im casual driving where ever. Has anyone had the symptoms and know what it is when I took it to the shop they just want to rebuild my transmission but I dont think i need that..like i said it shift fine. The surge is my only problem

any help is very appreciated

Do your rpms "surge" with the transmission?
What makes you think its a tranny problem?
Please try to describe the problem as accurate as you can...

Yes the rpms surge, Im honestly not 100% sure it is my trans, i did a boost leak test with smoke at a local performance shop and i had no leaks, i changed the plugs/wires/fuel filter, Have you or anyone else experienced this or know at all what it in fact could be..it seemed to only do it in o/d but now it does it when o/d is off occasionally also

chris

How did you leak test it? smoke??
Did you pressurize the intake side?
Some more possibilities of engine surge would be a faulty fuel pump
loose fuel injectore wire connectors
A deffective ECU or information sensors.

Does it ever do it at idle? How do you idle?

it idles ok, Lately acually it has been popping a little but, not so much a surge, just a pop here and their and idling very low

chris

And yes they blow smoke thru it or sumthing..idk all i know is it is a reputable place and they said it came back with no leaks

Is this the same reputable shop that told you had ""transmission surge"", and there only option was to rebuild your transmission?
That seems a little extreme..
I would check out your fuel injectors and pump like i stated above first. Then maybe your ECU and sensors. Do you throw any CEL lights?

At what rpms and gear does it surge? how much does it surge.. can you be as descriptive as possible.. I'll try to come up with some more possibilities.

The shop that did the test is not the one who told me i had transmission surge... AAMCO told me i had trans surge and said i needed a rebuild. its usually at around 3k RPM and it pops along with the rpms jumping up n down a little bit..nothing drastic just like 1-2 hundred rpms up and down real quick and stops once u accelerate or sutimes stops on its own, and no CEL has been thrown

I'm sorry to hear that about aamco. It's a national chain at the shop varies from place to place. My local aamco, one of my good friends is head in the shop there, and he is probably one of the most intelligent auto guys I've ever met.
I don't think the guy at your shop was too compotent.
Am I to understand it only surges while you are holding the accelerator pretty steady? around 3k rpm? in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th?

Either way, check out your fuel injector connectors, and then your fuel pump... I had the problem(injector harness).. But, go start there.

3rd and 4th(OD) and yes when im at a steady rpm. or if i gently (barely) hit the gas at those rpms, it will quickly pop a couple times and then be fine...some days more than the one before, it acually seems to happen worse when it rains or when A/c is on, doesnt matter if car is warmed up or not it will do it either way

How did you know my name? haha
Or were you signing it with your name? haha
Sorry it seemed weird.

Let us know the results if you don't find any wires broken, or loose, or anything, in the inector harness, or to the fuel pump/

Yea thats my name im guess its yours too LOL

ok..ill check that stuff out first thing in the morning and post from their.

thanks again
chris

All the wires to fuel injectors/fuel pump/ecu look fine. No wires are showing or anything..It is the stock fuel pump and relay and is not rewired like most people do(im not that modded yet) but now that i think about it, it really does not seem like my transmission it feels like it is just missing at cruising speeds, but like i said i changed wires/plugs last week so im stumped

Hey Guys,
My '97 n/t Talon had the same problem. With a little troubleshooting I discovered that the spark plug wire boots (down inside the head) were cracked from heat. I changed the plug wires and plugs and eliminated the surge/popping.
