I'm looking to buy a 2g gsx soon. I'll be buying the car with most mods done to the car. I'm looking for a car that pushes 340-375whp. From looking at the cars for sale with about this power they either have a 1g 6 bolt swap, 1g 6 bolt with internals, or some with the 2.3 stroker. I wouldn't want to run into too many problems with the car, and I'm wondering which engine would be safest with the power I want? I'm pretty new with DSMs and I tried doing some research but couldn't really find an answer for this. Thanks in advance. -Keri

Well id say the 6bolt would be the safest if your avoiding crankwalk and trying to make a lot of reliable power. Since your trying to have a 2g though, it isnt going to be a plug and play because I believe there are electronical differences ( cas, etc. ) with the 1g and 2g engines.
The benefits of 6 bolt engine over your 7 bolt 2g engine would be a better flowing head/ intake manifold, and beefier rods which can handle more torque.

A 2.3 stroker engine is a nice way to go if you want a fast street car. Not ideal for a high revving all out race car. My tuner has a 2.3 gst and the stroker gives great torque and really pushes all your other mods to their limits.
A stroked engine basically digs deeper in the cylinder and has a longer "stroke" than a normal engine therefore your power output will be greater from more combustion; its like giving your car bigger lungs.
Yet at the same time, a longer stroke also means slower pistons speeds. Hence, the difference of a jab and a hook.
A 2.0 can be revved much easier, faster and carry a longer power band.
If your not looking to go over 7.5k rpm anyways then id say go stroker, and instead of investing in the time and money for a 6bolt swap in a 2g, id say just build up your stock 2g engine to be stroked.
Andy Moraitis has a good 2.3 stroker set up, and he told me, his builder felt more comfortable with a 7bolt stroked engine that a 6. Something about the balancing or something like that.Im not really sure so I wont get into it.

Just remeber the stroked engine will probably need a little more attention, and need supporting mods to match,
but just do some research.
Thats just my 2 cents.

Like Tyler said the stock wil take that. Paul Volk has 403whp going through his 7-bolt, it has forged internals. RjJ has it spot on as well.

Yea supposing your internals are good and in specs, all dsm are rated to handle at least 400whp... Ive heard of some 6bolt guys skyrocking a stock block into the high 500whp...
( Dont know how reliable that engine can handle that much ) But by the time youd get near that power you probably wouldve upgraded the bottom end anyways unless its perfect now.

6 bolt vs 7 bolt....Definately go with the 6 but i would recommend getting dsmlink as it makes the swap much easier. I just did the 1gina2g swap today and dsmlink made it very painless.

If all you want is 350whp a 7 bolt will be fine...providing it doesnt walk on you. I ran 12.8@106 on my 7 bolt and was in no fear of it letting go whatsoever.

All depends on what you want to spend.

thanks for all the info. I'm going to buy a car with the 6 bolt swap and if I find one with built internals even better. Thanks again
