Heres the scoop. I removed the engine from the vehicle to replace valve stem seals, replace gaskets, remove balance shafts, new timing belt components.etc.
I finally finished putting it in last night and now I have no oil pressure.

I primed the car 5 times for 5 seconds each time. At first it started right up and sounded great. Ran it for about 15 seconds then shut it off to check for leaks. There were none so I started it up again and then noticed the oil ight was flickering on and off and then turned off. At this time I noticed my mechanical Autometer oil pressure gauge was at zero! So then I shut the car off.
What would cause this to happen? I can swear I followed the VFAQ on the balance shaft removal.
1. what can I do to check for oil pressure?
2. can I take the turbo oil feed line off and crank the engine to see if oil comes out?
3. how long would the car have to be running to build oil pressure in an engine that was dry?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rich

There are a couple things to check. When you did your BS removal, did you jack the motor up by the oil pan? If so, make sure you have not crushed the pan up into the oil screen pluging it off. I have seen many people do this before. Another thing people have done is get the gasket just slightly off when puting the oil pump front cover assm. back on, causing it to plug oil gallies.

But the number one problem that I have seen when people have this problem right after a BS removal is that they jacked up the motor by the oil pan, crushing it too far up.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did not jack up the car with the oil pan. I had the motor completely out of the car on an engine stand.
Although I would like to think I didn't mess up the gasket, that could be it. I just don't see how I could have messed any other thing up. Could the oil pump just crap out like that?

You did put the block off bearing in when you eliminated the BS? Right?
I'm not trying to be an ass, Im just trying to eliminate some posibilities...

Yes I did. I folowed the VFAQ on balance shaft removal to a "T". even if you didn't block them correctly wouldn't you get at least a little pressure? I am not getting any.
Thanks

You can crack your oil feed line to bleed it or check for pressure..
But just to be sure have you checked your oil pressure sending unit wires?
I see them rip off all the time.

I would think you should see some oil pressure... But, I do know, that if you got the SBR kit, one of the block off beaings has an oil hole in it. If you accidentally alligned that hole with the oil hole in the block, you could see a significant loss of oil pressure.

The only way to know if the oil pump is bad would be to pull the front case and inspect the oiling gears for excessive play and/or wear.

Good luck!

You're not indicating any oil pressure. Does the top end sound like someone's feeding a tin bucket to a sewing machine? That's the sound of dry lifters. If the motor's quiet, you probably have enough pressure.
Replace the idiot light sender, crimp down the connector, and confirm that your pressure gauge is actually piped into the proper location.
If you can confirm that you have low oil pressure, disassemble the pump pressure relief and make sure it's not stuck open.

The top end sounds great.......just no oil pressure on the gauge but there must be some hence the light flickering.
I dropped the oil pan today just to check things out and when I removed the pickup I noticed I didn;'t put a new gasket on. I could see where I didn't finish scraping off the old one:confused:
I am hoping this caused the lack of oil pressure. I will reassemble it tomorrow and see if this works.

Thanks for all the suggestions. By the way what is the pump pressure relief?

It is a relief valve in the oil filter housing that opens up when the oil pressure gets to high. If yours is stuck open, that could be the reason why you are not getting any oil pressure. (its like a waste gate, if it gets stuck open, you can't build boost)

That was your problem. You were sucking air.
