i have a 91 talon tsi, and yesterday after about an hour of traffic the clutch started acting up, first of all when i pushed on it, it would wistle and would engage much lower and stiffer than before, and today it is much harder to put in gear. i know this probably sounds like typical clutch problem but the weird thing is that in slowing down and at low rpms (1500-2000) the car would just shut off while i had the clutch in and once i let go it would start back up again like it would when you pop the clutch when the battery is dead. so if any one could help at all, it would be much apreciated, as this is my only car and my job is 45 miles away, thank you

First of all, begin checking if the master cylinder or the slave are leaking, you might be dripping fluid somewhere. Check also for cracked lines. The cheapeast thing to do at the moment would be to bleed the system, as shown here:

The master, is located inside the cabin behind the gas pedal, you need to check the carpet and make sure its not wet. (make sure its not leaking). If that doesn´t help, then you might have a worn clutch pedal assambly (typical on 1g´s) , and you can find the fix here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96981
Report back if you need more info. Good luck. :thumb:

Start by checking fluid in the master cylinder and check the slave cylinder for leaks, as this sounds like you are low on fluid or one of the cylinders is going bad. If one of the cylinders is going bad you will notice it mare in long stop and go trafic becouse the fluid gets thinner as it gets hot allowing it to pass by the piston in the cylinder this not making the pressure needed to release the clutch disc and a odd feeling pedal.

i thought it might be some kind of leak or something but the fluid is fine and the slave has been changed about 1yr ago and what about the shutting off? thank you the more suggestions the better

Check to see if your clutch petal is comming all the way back up from the floor. It should be about 7 inches. If not pull the petal up by hand and see if you can feel the slop in the linkage. if so then you need to weld your petal. The car shutting down might be from the clutch not fully releasing it self. Do it also grind from nutral???

ya the pedal is fine, after a while it engages only about 2 inches from the floor which is of course not right but after a while it will go back to where its supposed to at about 7 inches

I would go ahead and rebuild the master and the slave clinders. You can get the rebuild kit from advance auto for around 15$ apeace.

it did end up being the clutch i had to replace it twice because i mest up the first time and it would not shift, but now it works but for some reason the temp gauge does not work any more, if you know what it could be let me know please because i dont even know were to start
