I did another boost leak test on my GSX last night. Like before the BOV leaks like crazy. Does that just mean the BOV is doing it's job or should it hold the pressure in without leaking? I'm thinking about buying the GReddy recirculating BOV but I don't want to if I don't need one because I can think of many other useful ways to spend that 250 on my car. The leak is coming from where you attach the recirculation hose. If it's not supposed to be leaking at all could that be the reason I'm having all these bogging episodes?

yes. it shouldnt be leaking, is that the stock bov? If so It doesnt hold boost past 12psi. The greddy would defianetly be a good buy, Buy a used one for cheap I got one I could sell to you if you would lIke. I only used it for about a month. I sell it to you for 150.

Like stated above, it shouldn't leak. If you don't want to spend a ton of money, just get a 1g bov. They're pretty cheap, and much better than the 2g one you've got.

im not sure on the 2nd gens but i thought the 1st gen BOV leaks at idle, so shouldn't it leak dearing a boost leak test?????
thanks

Neither the 1g nor the 2g BOV should leak during a boost leak test. The pressure from the vaccuum line between the BOV and IM should hold the valve closed - if that line is attached, that is.

The 1g BOV is not bolt-on to a 2g without the adapter or without also upgrading your UICP and getting it flanged for the 1g BOV. I got my 1g BOV used for $25 (eBay), cleaned it up and painted it Krylon black ;). They'll hold up to ~20psi boost. Mine doesn't leak during a boost leak test.

At idle, the IM is under vaccuum, so it may (via the vaccuum line) pull the BOV open, but who cares - you're at idle - it would just be able to draw air in through the recirc tube and the compressor which is perfectly okay. Under boost or during a leak test, the IM is pressurized, and the BOV should be sealed.

i just put a 1g bov on mine and ran a boost leak test. Mine doesnt leak from there. Since your newer i wouldnt even bother getting a greddy. Get a 1g. Your not running that high of boost are you? Plus you can find them at a junk yard...i did (and only paid like 2.50...i told them it was a fuel pressure regulator LOL)

o.k. i made a boost leak tester im testing right off the turbo not at the end of the intake pipe,
so my stock 1st gen bov is not recurculating at this time, when i am testing, should it still not leak, with the bov venting to the atmisfear(bad speller)???
thanks ryan

They're vacuum-operated. They'll be opened at idle. It doesn't affect anything.

Venting screws up the ECU's intended programming as it tries desperately to account for someone having ganked its design limits. Do not vent.
