Okay I wired my car up like this....

O2 sensor side.................Car side.
Grey--->White. (shielded)
Black--->Black. (shielded???)
White--->Black.
White--->Red.

Problem is this.

O2 sensor side.......Car side.
Grey--->White=O2 sensor
Black--->Black=Ground
White--->Black=Ground
White--->Red=12v

Hmmm, notice one white wire is for ground, one is for 12v. Which white wire goes to the 12v and which goes to the ground??? Who was the moron who came up with using 2 wires of the same color anyway? I'm wondering if I just hooked them up backwards and burned up a good sensor.

Another question. As of right now I threw in the O2 sensor in the bung where wideband sensor was (that went bad) cause I can't get to the other one to get out the sensor right now. The bung for the wideband is behind the flex section. Anyone think this would cause a problem for the stock O2?

Thanks for any assistance and trust me, I've been searching.

I think you have it mixed up. The two wires that are the same color are always the 02 heater wires and they can have their polarity reversed and still work correctly.

Okay, would the red and black unshielded wires (harness side) be the heater wires and both go to the white wires on the sensor? Those don't matter right? Should I maybe swap the grey and white wires (sensor side) around and try that or would it burn out the sensor if I'm wrong? I'm reading 0.10 volts at startup and then goes to 0.00 volts with the grey to white wire and black to black.

For 1g:
(From DSM Backup manual for 91 DOHC turbo)
The harness side round connector has pin 1 in upper left, 2 upper right, 3 lower left, 4 lower right.
Harness side: red (pin 3 - goes to mpi relay for power) and black (pin 4 - goes to ground) are the heaters. Black (pin 2 - goes to ground) is signal ground and white (pin 1 - goes to ECU pin 4) is signal.
Sensor side: Every after market O2 has different color wires. The 2 same color wires, usually white (but sometimes black), are the heaters (go either way - they measure about 12 ohms so you can easily find them even if they are not the same color). The other 2 are the signal and signal ground wires. If black and grey, try the harness black to sensor black and harness white to sensor grey. If it doesn't work reverse these two. If you have 2 blacks, a blue, and a white, see here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=48046

Okay I've read that one a bunch of times already during my searching. I was at the dealer yesterday trying to figure this out and the guy there was saying that I'd be looking at the connector from the side the wire was sticking out. I'm thinkin I should be looking at it from the end of the connector with the wiring on the opposite side from me. Which way are we looking at this plug???

Second, I don't have a multimeter so testing out the wires for what ohm's they have or voltage is useless to me right now.

I could get it much easier if ya put it like this....
Grey--->White. (shielded)
Black--->Black. (shielded???)
White--->Black.
White--->Red.

But I guess I'll reverse the 1st two tomorrow. Just wanna make sure I don't burn out the sensor by doing so (like the guy at the dealer said I could do). Just tired at the moment and ready for the car to run right.

It depends on which connector you are talking about. For the harness (car) side connector the dealer is correct. For the device (O2 sensor) connector, look at it from the end of the connector with the wiring on the opposite side (which is the way my pin directions adhere to) (this would then be the same as the side the wires stick out on harness side connector when they are connected, get it?). This is all on page 8-47 of the DSM Backup manual. The harness side connector's signal ground (pin 2 black) is NOT the same as the harness side connector's car ground (pin 4 black - this is the normal ground people think of to battery minus that the O2 heater should go to). The signal ground goes only to the ECU and cannot handle the current required for the heater (if it would even work at all) and is a special independent ground used only for the signal (so signal will not be affected by ground noise and ground current loops). Both the harness side connector's signal and signal ground are shielded which will help you identify them. This is all on page 8-76 of the DSM Backup manual.

Also, a $10-15 Radio Shack multimeter to properly identify the sensors heaters and car's ground wires would be a very wise investment for you at this time (so you don't risk burning out a very expensive O2 sensor or burning up a harness signal ground wire).

K thanks. What happened was when I threw in my new motor, there had to be some wiring done to the harness cause some of the harness ends were brittle and broke off. Since I was going with a wideband and was gonna use it to emulate a stock O2 (at the time) my buddy had cut off the end connector for the O2 sensor harness since we were trying to clean up the engine bay. Now that I'm needing to hook it back up, it's been a pain in the butt trying to figure out how it was suppose to go.

But incase anyone needs this as well, my buddy found this for me and posted it up on our local forum here. Here's what he posted.....

OK I finnaly found it. I knew it was here. This is the answer you were probably looking for.
With the Bosch o2 sensor, this is the color code legend:

Black = SIGNAL
Gray = o2 ground
both whites = heater
So the way to be sure it is correct on the car is:

Sensor -------- Car
(sensor )
Black ---------- White
Grey ---------- Black (This is the black wire that is sheilded)
(heater)
Black-----------White (This is the black wire that is NOT sheilded)
Red------------White
I know that seems backwards but it is the correct way to install the Bosch sensor(this is direct from both the Bosch manual and FAQ's).
Hey, the Germans are always doing things a bit different. You would not have hurt anything with the sensor, so you will be OK.

Thanks for the help guys. About to go out and get it all done.

This same color thing is true on the O2 sensor but NOT on a DSM's (1g or 2g) wiring harness (page 8-76 of the DSM Backup manual for 1g).
