Hello guys and Gals.

I did search to see if anyone had posted this yet, and I did nopt see anythings regarding this information.

HKS now has 280 degree cams for the dsm. We already knew that HKS had made the cams for the evo, but now we have them also. The part number is 22002-BM001. I have not installed them yet. But, I will be installing them in about a week.

Ok not sure if you are just posting to inform us, or asking a question. Not sure about the HKS 280s but the BC 280s call for a 280* specific BC spring and retainer kit as well.

Martin, on SBRs site they say that the BC 280s need a special S&R from BC for these specific cams. Do the HKS, or Comps need this as well? Or in your opinion do any of the 280s need this special S&R?

Manufacturers have to say that to cover their asses from people who would throw these on a dying motor. I would say if you are on a fresh or low mileage motor you can get away with stock components. If you have a higher mileage motor i would recommend you go head with the spring and retainer setup. We use 280s in evos with stock heads all the time and have done the same with some DSMs. Realistically if you are building a quality motor setup you might as well spring for the extra 250 for the springs and retainers.

We have the same "recommendation" on our site.

I am sure that you knew about these cams last winter, but they were not available for dsm's. Hks just decided to make them around feb or march of this year. So, unless you had so type of ibside source with hks, I don't know how you knew they would be available.

Hks recommends that you use dual springs with these cams. I agree with the fact that they tell you that to cover their butts.

You use aftermarket cams with stock retainers on the Evo? If that's the case you're probably not aware of the problem with the stock retainers hitting the valvestem seals with aftermarket cams. It doesn't matter if they are 264's or 280's, they hit.

I was at a vendor convention for JRP in Toronto. HKS was there with some reps and they told me about them and when they would be out.

Okay. I wish someone would have told me about them coming out. I went through alot of different companies trying to find something I thought would be great for my setup. I the end I went with the HKS product. OL' reliable

Comp and Brian Crower also offer these style cams at a lower price and we have even seen the Comps make more power on the EVO than the HKS do. We haven't done a back to back test on the DSM though.
But are they just drop in and go like HKS?

No aftermarket cams just drop in and go, you must have cam gears for them to be dialed in correctly.

It's funny how most people think otherwise, I agree with you though. I've never seen a cam installed straight up that matched the cam card. They always need degreed.
