battery on my 98 tsi recently died

The battery on my 98 tsi recently died. I went and changed it but now the damn car won't run. The lights come on but I have to give it gas in order for it to turn over and start. Once it finally starts, the idle drops down right away and it shuts off. It was running just fine before the battery died. Any thoughts or suggestions would really be appreciated.

Fairly good chance the battery went out because the alternator wasn't feeding it. Check fuses.

Thanks. I'll check the fuses and have the alternator tested.

Well I went out today to see if the car would still die on me and it ran just fine. Fired right up drove it around a little bit and not once did it die on me.

Then the usual of making sure the battery is tied down and the positive terminal has its vinyl cover so that it can't short against a strut bar or the hood.
