Ok so my tranny is throwing me out of the first gear when I let go off the clutch - I have to do it SUPER smooth without reving above 1k rpm in order for it to stay put. It works just fine once the car is rolling though, so I believe it's the synchros (although I'm not sure why it works once the car is rolling) and my mechanic neighbor agrees with me. I've been starting uphills in the 2nd gear for a few weeks now LOL)

Ok so I'll be doing a rebuild, and I understand while I'm at it I should get the following:

1) Synchros - do I by them from mitsu? Or is there some better aftermarket alternative?
2) Throwout bearing - Mitsu or aftermarket?
3) Clutch slave cylinder - mitsu or aftermarket?
4) LSD kit for $200 from slowboy
5) ACT 2600 clutch
6) Slowboy's 12 lb Steel flywheel

Is that it?

Also, I want to adjust the gear ratios (my 1st gear is way too big and 2nd way too smal... when going from 6k RPM in first up to second RPMs drop to like 3 K, also first gear spins the wheels when the turbo kicks in, even on dry pavement)...

Video games make it look so easy, but I'm guessing all I gotta do is for 1st gear and 2nd gear I gotta get a total of 4 new gears (for the main and counter shafts), 2 of them synchroed, and it should be a pretty simple swap, right?

If so, where do I get those gears?

With a FWD, you'll never escape the 1st gear spinning, just learn how to control it. Are you planning this to be a racing tranny? Are you going to leave the clutch disengaged and bang gears? If so, you might want to look into double synchros.

Also, I'd highly suggest a TRE or Shep tranny. Even the stock replacement ones are gauranteed to be awesome, as they work on DSM trannies every day. You can get whatever you want in the tranny they make, also. Like a Galant 1st gear (which is longer).

Also, if you're going to go all out on the tranny, I'd suggest a real LSD (Kaaz or Quaife) instead of the SBR insert. But that's just me.

Well I don't want to buy a whole new tranny, and from what I've heard the insert will do just fine. I doubt I'll even get this car to 300 hp at the wheels, but if I do plan on doing that I'll get a different tranny.

Other than that, is there anything else I should change while I'm in there?

Also, what is double synchros? gonna google it.

For that goal, you should just go with a completely stock rebuild. There's no need for anything heavy duty.

However, I still suggest you go with a Shep or TRE tranny. What you do is send them yours and they rebuild it for you. You aren't buying a completely new one. Here's a link
