I just got my rebuild together and I'm trying to build oil pressure before I put the spark plugs in. I've turned the engine over for 5 to 10 seconds, but the oil light wont go off and the oil gauge doesn't look to be moving.

Any thoughts?

I was afraid to even turn the key; let a lone crank it for what felt like forever.

balance shafts just removed with modified oil relief port.
I did so many things to this thing through out the rebuild its going to be hard to narrow down a problem if there is one.

CHECK LIST:

gauge wires are hooked up
oil level; dead on
no leaks so far

Ok, so I tride again and no luck. Every thing is the same; no pressure that I can tell.

Did you turn it by hand . You know at the crank with a ratchet . You will not get pressure that way , but you will get oil around to the engine . I am in same boat right now . Stage 2 SBR head , fresh rebuild on block with 8.5 wiseco , bsek , turbo , mani . It was a lot of work . Now only if I could keep it running . Starts right up , dies just as quick . Good luck , trust your work , turn the key .

Did you prime the engine by hand of pull the plugs and disconnect the thing by the coil pack ( sorry; cant remember the name. power ... ) ?

I did, and when i turn the key I expected the oil gauge to start building pressure as the engine cranked and didn't start; do to the lack of plugs and all.

If this is what you did, do you remember your gauge reading oil pressure during this process?

Did the pressure build slowly, or did the pressure start out some were in the middle of the gauge?

P.S. I just realized, I now have Dsmlink. I bought a eprom and had it sent to ecm tuning to be chipped and linked. Could this help me figure out if I have oil pressure or what else it could be.

I just want to be clear, the problem is not a NO START. Its lack of oil pressure at the gauge as far as I can tell. I don't know if I will have a no start yet because i don't want to start it until I know I have pressure first.

\/\/\/ I don't have an aftermarket gauge yet, just the stock one and the idiot light. \/\/\/

Thanks.

Primed by hand , no plugs . Are you sure you hooked up your oil gauge (aftermarket) . With key , crank it for like 5-10 secs . Did this several times with no plugs .

Ok, well I guess I will try starting it with out knowing if I have oil pressure.

I'll let ya know ether way what I come up with.

UPDATE:

Car started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I just need to figure out how to post the dsmlink log I got from the 70 seconds I let her run.

Any help?
