misk belt? please help

i took the cover off of my timing belt ..... anyways i found peices of a belt and i dont know what it goes too take a loook..................

Appears to be the balance shaft belt. If that's the case, then it's time to buy a Lotto ticket, as you're damn lucky it didn't take out the timing belt.

This will get you started:
edit: scratch the link to the VFAQ...I see you're a 1G N/T

and some searches on this board couldn't hurt either. If that belt snapped, then the timing belt is probably not far behind as the should be replaced every 60K miles.

N/T belt carries the same maintenance schedule.

didnt take out the timing belt... i have new timeing belt... it jumped time in idle.. didnt bend any valves so you could say im lucky as hell...... time to goto autozone....

Yes, you should only have 2 belts under the front cover...a timing and a balance belt. In the future, if you change one...change both. And yes, consider yourself lucky. Also you should check the condition of any type of auto tensioner, pulleys, water pump and the like for that particular engine, I don't know what's required as I don't have one, but now is the time to probably do it.

i havent changed the timing belt... yet i have a new one sitting in the garage..... but the one on it isnt broke... i also order a belt tensioner....which should arive monday..... i need to borrow a cherry picker....so i can time it correctly and everything... i baught the car off a friend for $200... its in great condition... like after i fix this if i wanted to sell it i could get about a 1000 out of it..... its my first talon... but yeah i dont want to realy get rid of it... i may get rid of it to buy my other friends tsi......but yeah i fell in love with dsm's the night i stole my friends awd 1g tsi...from his ex's house the....car is his but its in her name...and the broke up...yeah... anyways it was fast as hell i #### topping it out on the highway was ####ing awesome godddd if i had the money id buy that car >.<
