Well,

As the title explains, I have an emissions problem where my readiness monitors won't check. I've had the problem for a couple months now, and I really really don't wanan spend the money to have the dealer fix it. They quoted me at 3 hours at 90/hr and it's not a definate fix. I have a '95 Eclipse GSX parts car that's a manual, and I was wondering if I took out the Ecu int hat and stuck it into my 96 Tsi AWD if it would fix my problem. Will the fact that it's got an Eprom and comes from a Manual GSX do anything to it?

Thanks guys!
Howie~

Manual or automatic only makes a difference if you are dealing with a 1g, so there is no problem there.

The problem with some 2g ECU's is that they don't retain the readiness monitor information after the car is turned off. The dealer can "work around" this by hooking the ECU up to a MUT-II and forcing the readiness monitors to set. They then run the emissions test and hand you a bill for between $150 and $200.

If you already have the '95 ECU, I would send it out and have it socketed and purchase a chip. This will cost you about the same as paying the dealer to force the monitors to set. Plus, you won't have to pay them next year to do the same thing. :thumb:

Socketed and chipped?

Where would I send it out to and what does it do?

Howie~

Provided your ECU is an EPROM (you'll have to crack it open to check), the EPROM chip can be removed and replaced with a socket. This socket allows you to change chips just by pulling the old one out and replacing it with another.

This allows you to run custom chips. If you go to www.dsmchips.com you will have a much better idea of what I'm talking about. Also, check out www.dsmlink.com .

As far as sending it out, that depends on what you decide to do. If you want to go with something like DSMLink, they will socket the ECU if you want. I'm not sure if the guys at DSMchips socket or not, but I'm sure it's on their website.

There is also a guy on this site that is the DSMTuners "ECU Guru". His handle is Steve. Shoot him a PM and he will set you up. :thumb:
