i jus instaled my evo 3 b16g and down pipe.i didnt hook up a boost controler i just hooked the line from my stock boost selonoid to my b16g waste gate actuator and i punched it and it read 25psi when i was in second gear... with the stock selonoid shouldnt i be runing the stock boost?:talon: :talon:

Sounds like your boost is creeping bad...

Happens often on most unported e3 16g's with upgraded exhaust.

is your 16g ported? upgraded actuator flapper?
that could be causing your creep, but also try to see if hooking up a Manual Boost Controller helps your issue.

no its a stock evo 3 b16g with about 2000 miles on it. ill instal the controler tomorw and see what happens. i bought a hallman es. to lower the boost do i turn it clockwise or counter clock wise?

Sounds like it's not hooked up.

Hook up the boost controller. From the boost source, to the controller, to the wastegate. Leave the boost controller off for now. Bypass all the other hoses, one is probably loose, torn, leaking, etc.

EDIT: just re-read. Does it jump to 25 psi right away, or "creep" up as the RPMs increase?

Shot-n-dark question/thought: Has anyone run the Evo3 16G with the actuator disconnected? What psi did you hit?

I tried it on a Big 16G and it smacked the guage at 30 (which is all it read to). I'm not sure it would have gone much past that anyway since the 2.3 outflowed it by 5000 RPM.

^I don't want to thread jack, but I think the problem has been figured out anyway so I'll go for it...

Can you explain what your thought process was just before you "tried" running with the wastegate disconnected?ROFL WTF

as soon as i get to about 3500 it is about at full boost (my gauge only goes to 20 but the needle goes much past that when i get on it) it doesnt creep up

so what do you suggest i should do just hook up the boost controler and try to lower it? if so on my hallman es which way do i turn to lower the boost?

I would hook a line from the manifold to the wastegate and see what that gets you first.

it should be counter clockwise to turn it down and clockwise to turn it up. most switchs ive used have been that way.. try it.. if it keeps doing it.. try it the other way.. or just read the directions. if it has any.

Check your vacuum lines in the area and see if any of them are split or cracked. If not, spend $2 and replace them anyway. But as stated above, disconnect the bcs and just run a vacuum line straight from the boost source to the wg actuator and see if it still overboosts. If it does, it is a problem with the wg actuator itself, and an mbc will not help. Leave the mbc off until you find the source of the problem.

That is exactly what I would do. Make sure the lines aren't getting pinched in any way as well. That can cause a nasty boost spike.

ok cool thanks for the help ill try it in the morning and post what happens...thanks again:talon: :talon:

thats how mine is hooked up right now and it only boosts to about 7 psi. every now and then it may go to 8 or 9. is it because the boost selenoid is missing?
