Engine problem?

My service engine light *blinks on and off* comes on once and while*once every two or three weeks* usually on a hill*starting out on a hill as in going up* but it once and a while comes on driving but thats really rare. While this happens the engine performace goes down. I am thinking of maybe bad spark plugs or wires? any suggestions? its a 99' Eclipse GS.

When it comes on try to get it to a shop that will pull the cel code for you. Thats the easiest way to tell what it is. How do you usually get the light to go away?

usually when i keep acel it goes away around 40+, but yesterday I pushed in my clutch while in gear and reved it and it went away. I had it in the shop but the head gasket was bad so I got that replaced and thats what they thought it was.
