Hi I just bought my 92 laser n/t with the 1.8. I was wondering is there anything I can to help it perform better, or should I just go with a swap. If I did what would be the best engine to swap it with, that won't be too dificult that I would have to spend days in the shop fabricating parts.

It has the automatic transmission:barf: but it was cheep. i figure if i really don't like it I can swap it out with a stick down the road.

any suggestions would be great.
THanks, kris

I mean theres minor performance mods, mainly tune up that can help your 1.8 faster, but its really out of the realm to make that car fast like a 2.0. If you wanted to do a engine swap, you would need a lot more then an engine. you'd almsot need the whole front end of a 2.0 4g63. and as for being in the shop they'll charge you more to do that swap then i'm sure you payed for the car. Your best bet would be to do a good tune up, maybe an exhaust and intake, and enjoy the good mpg. If you want the power, i'd find yourself a 2.0, or if you want to do the swap yourself find yourself a 2.0 thats been rear ended and is junked.

Just keep mobbin around in the 1.8 and save your money for awile, then buy a clean awd car. Thats by far the best thing you can do with the 1.8L's.

I used to use a 92 Eclipse 1.8 liter as a parts runner for my 2.0s. I ended up converting the whole car to Talon bumpers and painting it solid black. It looked good while getting me around while the other cars were down. I figured I could get a good resale out of it with the paint job. It was totalled two weeks later. It was fun to cruise around in and get good gas mileage.

I thought this thread would help answer some questions also, do more searching, you will find the 1.8 liter answers you are looking for.

THanks for the advise. I guess i will just stick with the 1.8, and maybee later buy a 2.0 car. O well maybe i can spend some time making the car look good?

i agree.. you will spend WAY more money then your hopeing to spend to make that car fast or at least decent.. just keep it as a DD ### trust me.. you will wish you had it after you start moddin a 4g63. id kill to have a 1.8 for a dd i got a damn f150 5.0 as my DD and i HATE it.. drinks gas worse then my GSX does. and being AUTO your gunna come to disslike that sucker fast also.. just start savin up and find your self a nice 1g AWD so you dont have to bi*** or complain about traction prob from a GST. trust me.. i had plenty of traction prob off my old 2g GST and im so glad i traded it for my 1g GSX.
